Mid-Range vs Mid-Bass
Whats the difference between a Midrange speaker and a Mid Bass speaker? Also, which would compliment components up front better? And lastly, what is a good brand to go with? thanks
Re: Mid-Range vs Mid-Bass
A midrange driver is typically a 5-1/4" to 4" speaker that only goes down to 500Hz or so. A mid-woofer is typically a 6-1/2" or 8" speaker that plays lower than a midrange driver. Usually down to 60 to 100Hz. A mid-woofer would compliment a set of comps better since they would help fill in the area between the subwoofer and the mid-woofer of the component set. A midrange driver would typically reproduce highs that would pull any front imaging you have toward the rear of the car. The brand is up to you and your own ears.
Re: Mid-Range vs Mid-Bass
Well, reason I asked about brand was because im having a hard time finding somewhere on the internet that gives good descriptions of Mid-Woofers and sells them. Im used to using crutchfield, but they dont sell any Mid-Woofers.
Re: Mid-Range vs Mid-Bass
The names they use for various speakers is largely irrelevant. If a 6.5" speaker has a 6" cone and a 1/2" rubber surround, they can call midbass, woofer, mid-woofer, or subwoofer -- it's still the same speaker. The naming will vary from one manufacturer to another, and from one catalog to another.
Just look at the frequency response specs, cone size, and surround size. Larger surrounds usually mean the speaker will handle lower frequencies more cleanly. Larger cone size means the speaker will move more air (i.e. produce louder sound).
What are you actually trying to do?

Re: Mid-Range vs Mid-Bass
Im trying to best compliment a set of Polk MMC6500 components that I will be putting in this summer. I will also have a 10" sub in the back. I know some people say to just have a set of front speakers, but I want more than that, just personal preferance.
