Question Distortion in subs with deck turn on and off

There is like a little popping from the subs when the deck turns on and off. I know its not the deck 100%, do you guys think its a bad ground? Where do yuo all ground out your amps?

You should be able to ground any where on the vehicle as long as there is absolutely no paint between the connection. I had a similar problem and it was my ground also...Also make sure that you dont have positive and negative switched on each sub, like one sub has a positive lead on the positive and the other sub has the positive on the negative lead this could cause some popping and similar sounds...

Re: Distortion in subs with deck turn on and off

its not your ground, i had the exact same problem in my camaro. i could hear my exhaust through my subs, it sounded pretty funny. its your RCA cables that connect to the back of your cd deck. the camaro has little space when the head unit is slid all the back and the RCA's eventually crimp up causing poping and engine noise. so you should just pull out your head unit and unplug the RCA's and replug them back in making sure they are straight and you should be fine. also make sure you dont have to much slack back there.

Ill tell you what change the fuse can do... Some fuses wont blow all the way or they wont blow to where you can see the blown part of the fuse, making you think its still a good fuse. amp still powers up but now it is all distorted from lack of voltage. I gaurantee it. Im not saying that all the other suggestions are wrong just that this is a possibility.

your problem is a ground loop. re-ground the amp with the shortest length possible, run your RCA's on the opposite side of the vehicle that the amp power runs. this should eliminate it.

you dont need to run new RCA's. they are just kinked where it connects to the hu. just unkink them. thats all you have to do. i can gurantee it!!

Re: Distortion in subs with deck turn on and off

well your garantee means ****all lol cause it was the rcas, i pulled the deck out, made sure there was no kinks, still the same, ran a new set and presto! no more problem, so ya it was the rca's, not the ground, or any kinks- it was the wires ( and they were stinger wires, so much for name brands) And i know the wires were no good cause after pulling them out, i tested them in unran and the problem still exsited. Thanks for all your help.

oh ok, well you must of had some cheap rca's cause i've got rockford fosgate and all i had to do was unkink them and it worked as good as new. did you have the rca's running on the same side as the power wire?

Re: Distortion in subs with deck turn on and off

If you had a kink in them then the wire inside has probably broken. Straightening out the kink has more than likely restored the connection between the wires. Chances are, over time, you'll develop an intermittent connection problem with the signal cutting in and out. If you do you'll know where to look first to fix the problem.

Re: Distortion in subs with deck turn on and off

That was an intreesteing read lol.. The problem was pretty apparent as soon as he said he could hear his exaust in his subs or whatever lol.. All it was was poorly shielded RCA cables that were picking up on the magnetic field created by the electronics in the car. (electricity of any kind created a field around it, with an unshielded wire connected to a speaker or amp, it will be affected by the field creating a humming or popping noise (huming when the car is running, and poping on shut off and turn on.) the humming also can go up or down depending on the RPM of the car, since most times.. the magnetic field that is affectinct it is coming off the coil or another large power source of the like..)
