Lets talk old school systems!!

Lets share some memories of some old school systems or those your buddies had "Back in the day".

I graduated high school in 1995. Back then the subs to have was some Rockford Fosgates, Lanzar, JL Audio, Cerwin Vega or some Orions XTR's, the cool deck was anything Alpine. Amps? None other than the Rockford Fosgate Punch amps 45/75/150 ect. Band-pass boxes were also pimp.

I personally had 2 10" Rockford punch subs (they said "The Punch" in the center) with a bridged Pyramid 150 watt amp behind the seat of my 76 chevy PU. Didnt sound that good as the subs needed a bigger box than I could fit in my truck.

My funny story...

My friend Dana had a late 70's AMC Spirit and what a POS it was. During our junior year for some reason he never had the $1.50 for lunch and would always beg for some french fries or some of our food. After a few months of this we all got sick of him begging and refused to give him so much as a french fry. This went on the whole school year...
During that summer following that school year, a friend and I were walking over to Dana's house. A few blocks away from his house we hear some earth shattering base. "Damn, some one is bumping hard!" We say to each other. As we got closer to Dana's house the louder it got. We turn the corner and sure enough it was coming from that POS AMC Spirit of his. We walk up to him to see what he had, as he was making adjustments to it as he just got it all wired in. He had 2 15" Orion XTR blues in a hatchback box, 2 Punch 150 amps one bridged to each and a Alpine deck and a few other amenities to compliment it. Turn out he had saved his lunch money the whole year and did odd jobs for it all.
We wanted to go cruising and he said "You didnt want to give me any food all year and now you want to go cruising in my G ride?" he said with a smile.
That car bumped harder than anything I had ever been in at that time or since. In went the Beastie Boys - "Licenced to ill" an we cruised around in that car like ballers and even though it was a POS we felt like pimps cause few could come close to the bass in that car. It was cool to see the headlights dim when the bass hit.

Now that I can afford it I am going to go old school with a system for my Z when I get back to the states. Ebay has some good stuff.

I would be happy to hear any stories of old school equipment you have.

I was personally partial to the old Orion HCCA series.
Stable to like .25 ohm, you could arc weld with some of the bigger models.

My 1st system consisted of pair of the original Kicker C12's. I had 4 Sony amps (3 XM-3520's, and one XM-2020), so each sub had their own amp and then the other 2 amps ran the JBL mids/highs. I had all of this around '92 in a '91 Hyundai Excel. I kept the car until I bought my 1st F-Body in '96 ('96 V6 Camaro) and that's the ONE thing I missed when I started driving F-Bodies...I didn't want to put that big of a system into one. I eventually couldn't take it any longer and in '00 started putting together a system for my '98 Z28.

Funny thing is, with my 2 Kicker 12's, the best I could hit was 130 dB...I now hit 132 dB's with my single 10" sub in my Z28

I've also now gotten into collecting smaller "old school" amps for some reason. I go on eBay and I've got enough amps right now from the early-mid 90's to power 4 or 5 systems. I've got a couple of U.S. Amps USA-25's, a few Orion Cobalt series amps and even a HOTT Setup 4 channel amp, just to name a few. Oh, and I've even found some of the Crutchfield Blues Series amps made by Precision Power from the very late 80's. I've got a 30x2 and 75x2 of the Crutchfield amps. I'm on the hunt now for a Puch 30. I just can't help myself

My first car was a 1990 Plymouth Laser and i had twelve 12" MTX Blue Thunder subs in it with 3 audio art 100hc amps. 3600 watts and she hit 160 db. That was back in 1998 when i was 17. I really miss those times. Thanks to the op for bringing back some good memories.
