Installing Component Speakers

Hey everyone, I know its not a Camaro, but I could really use some help here. I bought a set of MB Quart component speakers to put in the doors of my Cutlass. I got the 5¼ speakers in fine, but I have no idea how to mount the tweeters. I decided to put them up behind where my side mirrors. How are you supposed to secure these things? There is the "basket" that the speaker clips into and the speaker itself. Do I just cut a hole smaller than the basket and hope it holds in there or what? Any help is appreciated!

Well, it depends on how much space you have behind that panel. You might be able to cut a hole just a little smaller than the basket and if it has a lip around the front, then use some silicone adhesive to make sure that it doesn't come out.

Or if space allows you can mount the tweeter behind the panel and cut a hole in the panel. Then you can pick up some grill at Home Depot and mount it beneath the hole. Cover the grill with sonically transparent speaker cloth and you have what looks like a stock tweeter location .

i had a 99 Malibu, which is pretty much a cutlass. i mounted the tweeters in the air vents on each side, pretty easy to do, and sounded great (not to mention the looks you'll get when you tell people you mounted speakers in there:-))

pop off the fuse panel, and wedge the tweeter in there, close it back up. It didn't really effect the air flow either, worked fine
