If I were to shave the antenna...

If I were to shave the antenna I can figure all the body work out but thats not the problem. I dont listen to the radio much so I dont care about clarity to much but occasionally I listen to it. Is there somewhere inside the car where I can mount one? Like some of the lux cars have them mounted on the back windshield?

You can try mounting the antenna inside the B-pillar (sail panels). Just don't expect the reception to be very good there.

Thats possible. Its not like I listen to it much but there has to be something better than that idea.
Thanks for the quick response I was thinking it would take a day or 2 for this.
Also anyone know what body work for something like that would be. They would probably weld in some metal and then bondo it right? Then a quick spray over the panel? Like 200 bucks? Just the body work not the stereo part.

I think the B-pillar is about your only option really. It's about the only place in the car where you can mount the antenna vertically.

Personally I miss the old days when the antenna consisted of 2 wires embedded in the glass of the windshield. The cars I had with that type of antenna got much better reception than the mast antennas used today.

I got an idea from a guy to use a VW antenna. One of the ones thats about 3 to 5 inchs tall. With that mounted in the spare tire Jack Area How would reception be. Or even inside the car. That would fit in a lot of places really easy.
Am I underestimating the body work?

I think you can still buy an antenna that is affixed to the windshield.

I've seen ones like you mentioned that are "add-on" antennas and they looked like crap. The ones I was referring to were factory antennas inside the glass of the windshield.

Jeff,

What you could do is take a regular mast style antenna and temporarily install it inside the B-pillar just to see what kind of reception you get.

I've never actually seen a shaved antenna. I HAVE seen what are called Frenched (I think) antennas. It's nothing more than a modified body panel that the antenna comes out of a contoured hole in the fender.

Yea I started thinking about the body work more and it will probably run 400 to 500.
Something Ill be thinking about long down the road when I need the scratch already on the panel fixed.

Maybe Ill just get a power antenna? Really cheap that way and it keeps it out of the way to a certain extent.

You can get an amplified antenna, which is about 5 inches long and replace your stock antenna. You can alos get antennas that will attach to the back window.

I think the power antenna is a good idea, i might be doing the same thing.

I've had a Hirschmann power antenna ever since I bought the car. Looks good and if I ever need the radio, which is almost never, the reception is still there.
