Idea! Do it yourself bass boost controller.

After looking around at all the different, yet same, yet way too expensive controllers out there (they're just *****! why $30?), i've decided to try and make my own rheostat bass boost controller. If they all run off of phone line, this should be a breeze. Should get started Saturday, when i can get to Radio shack and pick up a ****.

Anyone done this before? Think i'm doomed to failure? I'd like to know what you guys think about this.

It's not that easy buddy...

It's not just a **** either...

It's actually got some electronics with it, and you can easially screw up your amp if you do something wrong...

It could be done, but just wiring in a pot from radioshack and expecting it to work is doomed to failure...

I'd say do some more research on how they actually work and what's involved in adjusting amplifier op-amps; then I'd suggest making and order from www.digikey.com for your parts... but in all honesty, the easiest and cheapest direction would be to just buy that "boost" ****...

Although in reality, bass boost does nothing but add distortion to the speakers, and in reality shouldn't be used anyways.

sounds iffy the way you paint it. btw i'm only even considering doing this because i can't FIND a bass boost controller that was supposed to go on my amp. Even the cheap BOSS ones are $9 w/o shipping. Are they basically all wired the same?

*shrugs*, in theory they should all be wired the same, but in reality, I honestly doubt it.

Why do you want the remote bass ****? To play with the boost I take it? I have mine mounted up front, and NEVER touch it, I have it set to one spot, and that's it... I play with the HU Subwoofer output level more often than anything else.

Re: Idea! Do it yourself bass boost controller.

I want it because i don't enjoy having to get out of the car to turn it to ON or OFF. I have to decide in advance if i want ear-shattering bass or just want some conservative, cops are around, other people in the car bass.

I've never noticed any distortion. Actually i noticed less distortion since using it, because i don't have to send bass to my stock speakers to get the subs running loud. I have a stock headunit btw.

So you just think i should keep looking for the one that doesn't exist? Or would a BOSS one work?

Re: Idea! Do it yourself bass boost controller.

Want to know something really funny now that I look at your system....

I'm running an Audiobahn Sub amp....

I could probably either build you the Remote Bass Boost, or you could have mine; I'd rather build you one though, mine's built into a custom panel; you can see it on my cardomain page (Check my profile, the link is there)...

I'll just copy the one that I have in my car now, or I could give you the schematic/parts list if that would work?

Doesn't your head unit have a similar function?
I know my Kenwood KDC-MPV6022 does.
Non Fading level adjustment or some such, and it ranges from -15 to +15.

Hahahaha well that's ironic isn't it? That would be awesome if you could send me a schematic! Thanks a lot man!

And Lower, i have a stock chevy unit, so i can change the bass, but i can't keep that signal from getting to my stock speakers. The result is a very dirty sound, because my subs are putting out clean signals, but my stockers are making buzzing sounds. Monsoon system's got good enough treble, but the bass is very sloppy.
