I did this mod last weekend and I can tell you that it works awesome!

A couple of notes however:
I have a 2000 Monsoon in my Camaro and the wiring harness that you splice into has a few more wires than the one pictured here. I tested the wires and the correct wires are identified in the picture from a count standpoint. In other words, it is the first and the third wire from the left side in the picture. One of mine was black in color and the other white.

As it was mentioned, you must have a CD playing in order for this to work. However, I noticed that everytime the CD started over, there was a pause in the sound. I thought that I had a loose wire or something for a while until I realized that the sound does cut out when the CD restarts. The solution is to get a really long playing CD and you will hardly ever notice it.

Good luck everyone! THANK YOU to the original poster. This saved me time and a bunch of money over ordering some adapter (which no one was positive that it was going to work anyway). It sounds great and it was CHEAP!

Glad to hear it worked for you. So it sounds like the cable in newer units have more connectors and different coloring, but pins 1 and 3 are still correct for audio and the ground is on the opposite end? I'll make sure I note that.

I took a picture of the inside of my radio and the connector, but I keep forgetting to bring my camera to work to upload the photos. But yes, pin one and three are audio. There are several black wires on my connector, so I didn't even bother trying to figure out which one was ground, so I just ran a wire to the radio chassis for ground and it seems to be working like a champ.

I put my aux input near my cig lighter in the front of my center console, between that and the little cubby hole there. The nice thing is that it is universal. I don't have an Ipod, I have a Zune, so my options for connectors and FM transmitters is pretty weak. I can use a zune, and ipod, or whatever I want.

Thanks again for one of the best mods I have ever done to my camaro. If you think about it, it has got to be worth at least 1/10 in the quarter because now I don't have to lug all of those CDs around

You may want to check out the ls1tech link about, there is a more detailed thread, but here is a note from this thread that may apply:

Talking Re: How you can add an aux input/mp3 player without an adapter

Hey All,
I have a '97 T/A, the Monsoon stereo with the CD changer in the trunk. Just wanted to let everyone know that this really works. I was a little nervous at first, but then I thought, if it doesn't work, then I can just tap the wires back together. I really wanted my MP3 playing through my speakers and I didn't want any of those crappy adapters. That's why you have a MP3, right, for the quality of sound.
In case someone has this set-up which is a little different from the pics here, but the concept is the same. You don't need to open your HU. I'll save you the problem that I had at first, finding the speaker wires to the CD changer.
The wire plug that's closest to the passenger side is the CD controls.
The green and white wire is for the left side and the brown and white wire is for the right.
I fried my MP3 player by touching where the wires plug in trying to find the right speakers. I had it for only 2 days, so they replaced it, so now I have another new MP3 player.
This mod. is great and sounds great. I wanted to keep my car original but wanted the ability to play MP3s and not lose sound quality.
If I can do this anyone can. It's easy and makes you that more proud of your ride.
Thanks

Good to hear you got it working after a little trial and error I definitely prefer the "stock" look, too ... smaller stereo just doesn't look as good, and you don't have to worry about someone stealing it.
