firebirdude, if you want, Home depot sells 3/4" Baltic Birch wood for about double the cost of the 3/4" MDF. Its about half as light as MDF and it's rigid enough too. The 48"x48" sheet costed me $40

Check around. A local place may carry it. But birch ply is great as well
