How Much Power 2 Sub?

My system currently consists of a Clarion head unit, Audiobahn amp (50x2) and Infinity refference 6000cs components. I am going to add a sub to round it out and I have the basic setup pretty well nailed. I'm going to get a subthump stealth box (drivers side) and put a 10 in it. My question is how much power do you think I should be pushing to the sub to compliment my current setup the best? I don't want it to overpower the sound of my system so that all I hear is bass, but, I do want it to "hit"....not much, but at least enough to know that my sound system is pretty far from stock. Thanks for the help.

PS- Crutchfield lists the components that I have as not fitting my car, also, WhiteRascal (who has a KICK *** car btw) on f-bodyaudio.com said that the woofers hit the back of the door panel. I haven't had any of this trouble at all and I put the music up to the threshold of pain to test them out. The very edge of the speaker surround DOES sit very close to the panel but I think the reason I haven't had any trouble is because I'm pushing "only" 50w to them and I have my amp Xover set on HPF (and the hpf set somewhere in the middle) I would like to hear from anyone who HAS had trouble with these speakers, if you could let me know what kind of power you were pushing the speakers with and how you had your Xover set (HPF, LPF, etc.).

Re: How Much Power 2 Sub?

Since you don't want alot of bass i'd say get a little 300watt or 400watt RMS amp and a good sub. If it were me i would run a massive audio 12" but your lookin for an entry level sub, so i'd prolly go with a Phase3 10" woofer for that area...as for having too much bass, just make sure you get an amp with a Remote Bass control...most of them allow you to adjust the bass from 0db (no bass) to a +18db(if u wanna feel like a badass bass) and you can just adjust the bass accordingly to what kind of music your listening to.

Those are pretty damn handy for on the fly adjustment. But FYI, that is a bass boost ****. +0db does not mean no bass..... just 0db of boost at the frequency the **** is set to (check owners manual). But please remember, this is similar to cranking the gain **** on the amp. Depending on where your actual gain **** is set, you could be pushing your amp dangerously into clipping with the bass boost

3-400WRMS is plenty of power to give you thump. Even with a single 10" in a small sealed box. Should be plenty for you. But keep in mind, if you ever plan on upgrading, might want to buy a larger amp to accommodate a second subwoofer. Also, might want to run larger power wire now, to avoid buying larger and running it again later. Just think about the future is all I'm saying. And I ran the reference line component set for about 3 years. Loved em' actually. They were powered off a Rockford 800a4. (100WRMSx4@4ohms@13.8V) Never had any problems with them. Very good for the money.

Re: How Much Power 2 Sub?

Definately run a bigger wire before you decide to upgrade and run new wire later...when i bought my system for my camaro i did this while i was cleaning the interior and its just alot easier to run a 4 gauge wire off the bat then having to run wire all over again to get it hidden from view if you do upgrade.

BTW: thanks for clearing me up on the "bass boost" **** deal...never really bothered to read the amp owners manual through its entirety, lol.
