I got 4 6 1/2 blaupunkt speakers for $18.92 at brandsmart.$8.88 a pair.
just to get me by till I can get the one's I want I'm into kenwood.

If the factory speaker baffles in your '97 look like the ones in my '99 TA...

Factory Baffle

I would recommend not using them and making your own. I blew one of my mid-woofers because the cone would smack into the door's trim panel on long excursions. I made my own set of baffles that lower the speaker an extra 1/4" deeper into the door cavity. The baffles I made also add a 4th screw to help make the door a little more rigid.

Yep looks like the same speaker baffles from what I can rember from the last time I had the door panel off.
The speakers I have are very shallow so I soun not have a problem like you had.
So the 6 1/2 speakers bolt right in?
Nice T/A does you CD changer skip in the trunk like that?

Thanks,
Chris G.

I would still consider making the baffles. The stock baffles are very flimsy. With the addition of the 4th screw and caulking around the baffle's edge with silicone I was able to make my door a little stiffer. The more rigid you can make the mounting surface the better.

I've never had any skipping problems with my changer mounted there. It works perfectly there.
