how bad are the hatch rattles with subs?

ok guys its about time that i put 2 12's in my car. my brother had a 1986 firebird with subs in it, the hatch rattled a little but not all that bad, you could hear it about ten feet away. now he has a mtx 8000 in his 98 firebird and it rattles very little, but i have a friend who has a 91 formula and two 12 inch square kickers and you can hear the rattles from almost a block away, sometimes over the bass! so is it just his car or does everyones car rattle extremely bad with subs?

Depends on the setup as well as the car. I've found that the newer cars tend to be a little tighter inside and therefore don't rattle as much. There's a few trouble spots in these cars that most of use have experienced. Take care of those and you'll be fine. Even with two 12s. You may even want to do a little sound deadening.

I had 2 12's in my hatch hitting a 145db or so my hatch moved alot but didnt really make n e noise I had to have the plastic piece on the hatch ('94 t/a) removed due to excursion of the subs had the hatch dynomated didnt see too much of a difference bad idea having too powerful of a system in a f-body had my heatshield on my cat tack welded 3 times and actually broke a hanger on my exhaust from the vibrations.

The rattle isn't that bad in a coupe...i had 2 12's in my 95 camaro with ttops and my bro has 3 10's in his firebird. Now a convertible, thats a different story. I've spent serious $$$$$$$$ trying to stop the rattles....its a losing battle with a vert.

If you adjust those "rubber screws" that helps little but. Then I also have 2 layers of e-dead (dynamat) on mine so you don't really hear the rattle but you can see the hatch move at times. Also on of the screws came out of my rear fender panel from the vibration.

I have yet been able to stop mine from the rattle-squeak-rattle, grrrrr. I have just 2-10s in non-ported box.

I had two twelves in a grand am I had and they rattled my car to pieces. If I ever put speakers that big in a car again I would definitely prep my car first.
