HD Radio

Is HD radio worth the cost of the hooking up..I know its free service but you still have to buy the HD radio tuner, which is 200 more dollars.

Hope you get some answers. I asked about this some weeks ago, and didn't get any responses.

I have noticed JVC has an HD radio that is reasonably priced, and it comes with a built-in HD tuner.

I don't think it has the market penetration yet to really get too many good opinions on it. I'd like to know what it's like but don't know anyone who has decided to get it yet.

Definitely not worth it -- not nearly enough stations broadcasting in HD. I would go for satellite, because that is not location dependent (but paid subscription). To me HD just seems like a way to make money temporarily until it is phased out, when there is already a better solution.

Here is a list of current stations: http://www.hdradio.com/hd_digital_radio_format_list.php

If you do think you want it still, make sure you're within around 35 miles of a HD transmitter. Keep in mind that digital signals (HD radio) operate at a fraction of analog signals (typical FM), so the signal is probably more limited and affected by the environment you live in more (then again...I do not know how the network is setup exactly).
