Pioneer makes good ****. Everything sound in my car is Pioneer except the amp and sub, and the amp will soon be a Pioneer. I also bought a new Pioneet headunit to reaplce the one I have for Christmas.

So I say go for it.

I don't mean to **** off any of you Pioneer owners but... In my 28+ years of installing car stereo for myself, family members and many friends, Pioneer has had the worst quality record of any brand I've dealt with. So bad that I wouldn't own Pioneer gear if you gave it to me. Maybe Pioneer's Premiere line is better I don't know. I'm just talking about regular Pioneer equipment here.

Have either of you heard a Pioneer setup in the last year? My dad recently replaced the eclipse speakers in his truck with Pioneers because the eclipses were crap. He got 4-way 6x9s in the back, 2 way 4x6s in the front, and replaced the stock headunit with a Pioneer one, and it is one of the best sounding systems I've ever heard.

Re: Is this a good headunit?

I hear pioneer setups all the time, and none have ever really impressed me.

If a pioneer HU, and 4 speakers is one of the best you've heard, then you've got a LOT to listen to to learn what sounds ok, Vs what sounds GOOD, especially with 4-way speakers installed behind the listener; talk about a screwed up sound imaging.

Re: Is this a good headunit?

4-way 6x9's? My ears hurt just thinking about them. Why anyone would want a speaker with essentially 3 tweeters in front of the woofer is a mystery to me. Too many people think that if a 2-way is good then a 4-way has to be better. Thats just not the case.

Pioneer gear sounds fine. As long as it works. Too many times I've seen their gear crap out due to cold and/or cracked solder joints. Joints that were never soldered at the factory. Changers that won't play CD's. HU displays going out light by light. Buttons that failm, etc. This kind of QC (Quality Control) is unacceptable.

Re: Is this a good headunit?

LS1 Rulz---while were talking about quality, what do you think about Panosonic HU's? I have one right now and it was great for the first year, but no on some CD's it wont play some songs and youll have to start it over and everything and then error messages will come up for no reason, but it sounds good whenever it does play. Right now i have 4 JL 10" W0's and Polk speakers all around and Rockford Tweeters, what do you think would be a good HU for me? Im just looking for something new, and i really like the look of Panosonic, but now im loking at Alpine b/c all ive heard is great stuff about them.

So is the problem with Pioneer the sound quality or just the overall quality of it? Basically what im asking, is what brands are the best when it comes to HU's? Ive got a great system already, so i dont want my HU ruining everything when i could have an even better system. Thanks for the help.

What kinda music are you listening to when you "hear" these Pioneer setups?

THe current Pioneer HU in my car was manufacturered in 1999 and it's still going strong. I only bought a new one because I needed more than one RCA output (the one I bought has 3). The one in my car now I'm going to put in my mom's van to replace the stocker, so I'll see how long it'll last.

Re: Is this a good headunit?

I've had Alpine, Kenwood, and Pioneer crap out. I found a very nice deal on a Pioneer Premier unit and changer a couple of years ago and have had zero problems with it.

Re: Is this a good headunit?

I haven't dealt with many Panasonic decks so I can't really comment on them. I'm not saying all Pioneer is junk either. Just that in my personal experience over the last 28 years Pioneer has had more reliability problems than any other brands I've had personal experience with. I've never had problems with any Alpine or Kenwood decks but I'm sure there are people that have.

As for what kind of music I listen to to demo speakers... it doesn't matter. If a speaker sounds bad (and to my ears 4-ways sound bad) then the music is gonna sound bad regardless of what type it is.

Re: Is this a good headunit?

My dad only listens to CLASSIC rock and the 4-ways sound great with that, I have 3 ways all around in my Camaro. I guess just to decide what sounds best, it's a personal thing.
