gauges arent working

so i just bought an 02 camaro and i decided to put a kenwood kvt 815 dvd player in the dash. i got it in, but the wiring was messed up and we couldnt get the power on. i put the stock HU back in, but it isnt hooked up, and now none of my gauges dont work (speedo, tach, gas etc)
does anyone have a wiring diagram that could help me get it working?

Re: gauges arent working

you probably just blew the fuse for the guages. check the fuses.

Re: gauges arent working

so right now i just have the stock HU in. the problem is that im not getting power to anything, which affects the gauges, hatch opener, radio. it could be a problem with the ground but i dont know how to check for that. i checked to make sure the grounds under the hatch carpet by the latch were still hooked on to the bolt, and they are.
what other fuse could affect this? its not the gauges fuse.

Re: gauges arent working

Steve,

I wonder if you somehow blew a fusible link. If I recall, there's a bunch by the battery. They look like butt connectors (on red wires). Give them a gentle tug (gentle).. If they dont come apart, they're good. (Unless someone has a better way of testing them).

I'd still like to know what you actually hooked up to to have a failure like that. Does the car even turn on??

The stereo harness should not affect the rest of the car. There's 8 speaker wires, gnd, +12 constant, +12 switched, dimmer, and power antenna (if present), might be one or two more wires for something else that I can't remember, but still stereo related...

Re: gauges arent working

thanks, ill try that in the morning.
i tried putting an indash tv in. we got all of the wires run from the brain (in the hatch) to the HU. we just couldnt get power to the HU. we finally figured out that if we hooked a bunch of wires together that we could get power, but it wouldnt stay on for long. i kept having to restart the car to turn the HU on, and i would have to put a code in every time. when all those wires were connected the gauges would work.
then finally we decided to just take the HU out and put the stock one back in. i put it back in and plugged it in. i didnt do anything with the wires that were coming from the brain (which were the wires that were originally connected that made the gauges work).
my guess is a short or a problem with the ground, but im not sure how to check it.

i checked all of the fuses also.

the car turns on and everything works except the speedo, tach, odometer, hatch release button, hatch release button on keyless entry remote and radio.

the keyless entry itself works fine. the lights all work. AC works.

Re: gauges arent working

check every thing twice because electrical problems are usually something easy to fix that you over look

i got it fixed this morning.
someone over on ls1tech told me to check the pwr accy fuse, and sure enough it was broken, so i stole a 15a fuse from my moms car, and now it works!
