Finished AMP install...PICS

Finally got my two fosgate amps off the carpet in the trunk of my camaro so they would stop overheating...I was standing in home depot thinking of a creative and easy way to elevate my amps up in the air for better flowing air and less heat being insulated from the carpet with the amps just sitting on top of the carpet. Here are some pics...sound system now sounds great and I think it looks pretty custom...

thats an interesting way of doing it....but are they secure so if you accelerate fast or take a sharp turn, they wont roll around?

I'd be more worried about them becoming projectiles and hitting me in the back of the head in a front end accident.

yea they are secured...I was aware of that...I cut out pieces to go under neath each of the rubber pieces that are holding up the amps...and they are screwed into the carpet and then some really sticky double sided tape hold them onto that...they arent going anywhere...ive tried moving them with my hands even rougher than an accident or accelerating quickly...no worrrries.

Ive never seen anything quite like that before.. very interesting indeed, if you dont want to cut into your carpet and are worried about drilling into the gas tank under there i would get some velcro tape and put it on the bottom of the amps and the carpet to hold them in place alittle better

You need to re-read his reason for mounting them the way he did. The whole point of raisning them off of the carpet was to increase their cooling ability.

Aparently i missed that..
His reason isnt really necessary though since the air is pulled in from one side to the other and doesnt really have anything to do with the bottom or top of the amps being covered, not only that but im sure if i can put my two ED nine.1's ontop of eachother and on the carpet with no problem of overheating im sure he could do it with his rf's

Ive had many different amps and usually never had any problems setting them on carpet...but something about these RF amps...they seem to run a lot hotter than any other amps I've had. I also was pushing it pretty hard...probably harder than it is meant to run....so I'm guessing the carpet was acting as an insulator and keeping heat around the amp making it stay hot. I really dont know...I checked all my grounds and everything...all is well...ever since I elevated it..it has been fine It made it a little easier to hide some of the wires too by elevating it...but system sounds great...so no complaints.

Rockford amps as well as MTX amps and others are known to run rather hot. Just because something works for your amps doesn't necessarily mean it will apply to all amps.

I read that same thing when I was researching to see if others were having problems with overheating with these amps....most just said to check the wiring especially the grounds...and keep them off of carpet to ensure that air can get under it as well as over it. So I did...and sure enough...going on day #3 and it hasnt cut off on me since.

Re: Finished AMP install...PICS

You know it just amazes me the number of people that seem to blame everything on bad grounds. That or they'll say that the power wires are too small and thats why the amp over heats. This is pure BS. The guage of the power wires has absolutely nothing to do with an amp running hot.
