Door speaker replacement ?

I replaced my in door speakers and the factory speakers had 4 wires on them.
The new speakers only had 2 wires and now there is barely any sound from the new door speakers. Ive tried several combinations hooking them up but Im at my wits end. WTF? Im not very electronics minded but this is ridiculous.
Any ideas?
Am I going to have to spend more money and get component speakers that use 4 wires?

TIA

Re: Door speaker replacement ?

Which set of wires did you connect your new speakers to? The pair going to the mid-woofer or the set going to the tweeter? I'm guessing that you connected the new speakers to the wires going to the factory mid-woofers. I would try connecting them to the set of wires that went to the factory tweeters.

Another problem you have is that the factory speakers are 2 ohms and your new speakers are 4 ohms. Since they have twice the impedance than the stock speakers you only get about half the power to your new speakers.

If you've got the funds I would recommend replacing every part of the POS factory system with MUCH higher quality after-market equipment.

Could you please suggest an effective, and affordable set-up? I already got a Pioneer head unit, just need speakers and an amp

Due to past experience I have a VERY low opinion of Pioneer so I'm probably not the person you want to be asking for recommendations.

Re: Door speaker replacement ?

what kind of speakers did you buy for the doors, thats usually good to know. are your speakers two way? i.e. tweeter on top of woofer? maybe your speaker actually has four wires. let me know.

as far as effective, and affordable, check ebay. i bought JL's 6.5 coaxls for the door, 8" 8W0's for my sail panels, and 4"s for the rear, and spent about $110. all work, and are in incredible shape.

otherwise, people will tell you to get alpine, or infinity. for "affordable" but if your "affordable" isn't the same as some people, then you could check into MB Quartz, or Focals... again, check ebay.

There are wireing harnesses aviable to connect your speakers into the stock lines that are already there.. just like when you hooked up that aftermarket headunit into your factory wires, they make harnesses for speakers like that
