Few Sub Vids

Well figured I would post some vids of my subs here as well. The excursion isn't bad for a SQ sub... 20mm Xmaxs is decent for now of days. Each sub is in their own chamber, 1.88cbft tuned to 35Hz. Maybe I'll plug up the whole and get a CD to play them down around 30-10Hz to see their full excustion limits.

No offense, thats not much excursion. JL, as far Im aware of, has the most excursion thus needing to use their covers. I have a W3 in mine and that thing damn near jumps out of the box.

Yeah I know, that was just with music. Here are some with some test tones. Even with these I'm not reaching their full excusion... thanks to my neighbors.

Re: Few Sub Vids

Well here is one more new vid I took with the volume turned up alittle more than the last ones (this time vol 22 last time 18). I dare not turn it up anymore... not cuz of the subs or anything, but the box is starting to flex. I guess that's what I get for having to have a glass box, and it is around 3/8" thick.

Cool

For the money, the Type X is a decent buy. 19mm XMAX, decent power handling, pretty good SQ.

Only thing I'm not so keen about them is the mechanical noise, and how goddamn stiff the suspension is. I like my W7's because they get transparent with the music, but the Type X, for the money, makes a lot of sense.

Re: Few Sub Vids

Well I orignaly wanted to do 2-3 W7's, (2 ported, 3 sealed) but money was a factor when I was doing this. $250 for a Type X or $550 for a W7... really was a no brainer. I'm actually pretty impressed with the Type X's. I personaly think their Xmax is underrated IMO. Their power handling is for sure underrated, by just about half. Daily I know people putting 1800WRMS to these subs with no problems. I would love to give them more but space and the electrical would be an issue then. Orignaly these subs were going to have 33mm Xmax. Also the shop my bud worked at got so we got to play with one of them. It was put in a 1.25cbft box, and was being sent over 4000WRMS and taking it pretty good. Keep in mind this was 8 months befor the sub actually came out, so of couse somewhere between the test sub and the production there is going to be changes. I might switch these subs out with W7's later... but really the only gain I see me getting is alittler better SQ from the subs at high volumes.

I've done installs with both W7's and Type X's, and if you do switch to W7's, you'll get much better SQ and quite a bit more SPL. XMAX is only a little higher, but XMAG and XSUS is quite a bit better on the W7.

If I couldn't buy direct through JL, I don't think I could afford to run one. I would probobly be running Type X's as well

You can buy me some direct .

Hard to say, since JL decides to put a weird 3ohm VC on their sub each W7 will only get 750WRMS while my Type X's are seeing the full 1000.

Re: Few Sub Vids

The W7's don't absolutely need huge power to make a lot of noise like the Type X does. I've heard the Type X off of 500w RMS and it's night and day compared to 1000w RMS.

Case in point, my old install manager is running an 8W7 off of a 300/4 with two channels bridged. When I was running my two 8W7's, they had a 500/1 on each one. I never thought the sub would hit as hard as it does off of 150w RMS, but it's rediculously loud, and very clean.

When I decide to upgrade from my two 10W7's, I'll let you know

Re: Few Sub Vids

If I was to redo it I would do 3 12-13" W7's sealed... or 2 12-13" ones ported.
