Question Escort Passport 8500 X50

Anyone own the Escort Passport 8500 X50 radar detector? I'm thinking about buying one, and would like some reviews.

Re: Escort Passport 8500 X50

I have the Escort S2, which is a wireless and a little more powerful than the X50. I like the wireless alot, it makes it alot easier to take off and put in the glove box, like a radio face plate. I have to replace the batteries about every 3 months.

as for the actual radar detection, it works as good as I can ask for.

I got my Solo at best buy for $300

my big complaint would be, when the t-tops are off, and the radio is up, and your driving down the freeway, you cant hear it go off (but you can see it, cuz the screen goes from blank to lite up, and the bulb turns red). But thats prob a problem with all detectors. It does have a ear phone jack thought, if you want to use that.

I have the Solo S2 as well and it works pretty well. I paid 250 for it on Ebay. Cobra is probably the best bang for the buck I've seen in radar detectors though.

The Escort Passport 8500 X50 and the Escort S2 Solo are the same except the Solo uses batteries instead of being wired to the dash. (if you didnt know that).

Thats why I recommened it and gave my option on it

Honestly....Cobra's are not bad at all!! I am on my 3rd one! (the other 2 were stolen

It has beeped from very far away when on long stretchy highways. And is pretty accurate. Comes with a good amount of features for the $90. I have yet to get ticketed and I drive fast all the damn time. I have used it for almost 3yrs and it works great. I have never had an instance where I said to myself that having a $250+ radar would have been better than this one. It has gone off everytime when it's supposed too with plenty of time to react. Unless they turn on their guns right when they point it at you and then no radar in the world is going to save you.

the s2 is not the same as the x50, mainly it is slightly less powerful. I just bought an x50 and driving back on the highway (3 hours) it went off several times to full Ka, and I had no clue where it was coming from, and i never saw anything. But I slowed down, and i would much rather have one that is too sensitive, than not sensitive enough.

I have the X50 blue. It works very well. You can customize some of the setting to suit your needs. For instance cops around here only us K and Ka bands. So I turned off the X band completely. This waY I get almost no false alerts (from stores etc.)

You can have the display tell you what frequencies it's detecting. Or you can display the band and number of bogies.

I have no complaints with it. I get extremely long warnings with it and I trust it.

Re: Escort Passport 8500 X50

I have an X50 which I upgraded to from the original 8500 model. They say its 50% better at everything compared to the 8500 and I believe it. Its amazing how much warning it gives you. I'm talking up to a mile in city conditions and easily over a mile on the highway. One might think that would get annoying but with the auto volume decrease and the easily accessed mute button its not a problem. That extra time to slow down is priceless. False alarms are really non-existant. I got mine off ebay and for the price its hands down the best detector made. I've read many reports that put it above the V1 and all others. Yeah the arrows are nice but if it gives you enough time to slow down and has virtually no false alarms they aren't needed.

Werd. V1 is the way to go. They have a great warranty program so if for some reason it breaks you send it in and they'll fix it for a small fee. It will never be obsolite (sp) because you can always upgrade them. You can't forget about the directional arrows. I shows you which way the signal is coming from www.valentine1.com Well worth your money.
