Elemental Designs kx series (any good??)

I know that elemental designs make some great subs. K, O and A series kick some real a$$, but what about that new kx series (k for poor people) .Does anybody heard anything about them??

I am thinking about 2x12" subs (k or kx series) or one 12" O series setup. MB QUART DSD-216 on the front, some bid bass in the rear. What do you think???

Thanks

If they're anything like the rest of the eD lineup, they have an awesome performance/dollar ratio. If that's what your price range is, I would go with them; you can buy better subs, but they're like twice as expensive.

Also, it would probably be better to put the midbass speakers in the front. If you put them in the rear, it's just keeping the bass in the rear of the car, and you want it as far to the front as you can get it -- it will sound louder and more natural, which is esp. important if you're on a tight budget. Then again, if you're really on a tight budget why are you buying components AND seperate midbass drivers? Get some 6.75" components (Six and three quarters inches) that will give you some midbass, and step up to the Elemental Designs K series.

Good luck!

I bought DKD 116 MB Quart Speakers (6.5"), as my coaxial/midrange speakers (some high and mid-bass sounds) + I have already have tweeters mounted in my doors. Now I am looking some strong mid bass (for smooth conversion between subs and highs). I was thinking about real mid bass drivers likeKicker RMB6 and mounting them in the back seat compartment. But you are saying that better option will be in the doors??? I was thinking about this, but I am not sure about all the rattles from the door that can come up from strong min-bass sound. As for a sub I think that I will use Elemental Design k series, not kx (because O series doesn’t work too good in small box) and put it in MTX CF10U Thunderform 0.6cF box (I will need the trunk space for t-tops). My head unit is Clarion DXZ925 (Dolby Pro Logic II processor), I love that HU. What do you think about this setup...?

ps. Are you sure that mid-bass speakers in the door is a good idea??
pps. Oh and I am not on that tight budget. I read about Kx series speakers, and it seems that it is almost exactly the same setup as regular k series except this model have lower power handling. I will be using 200RMS amp so I was thinking that kx series is enough...

I have the 10"kx in a sealed .65cu box in the back of my camaro. I have a Profile Clarus 600M powerin it, nothin special but it RMS's at 450watts. I love this sub the third one I have had in the camaro and it is stayin for a while, it is very clean, and when i put in the rap it will literally shake your whole body. The best sub on the market for the money.

Yeah, in competition systems they use midbass drivers up front, either in the door or in seperate kick panels. If you put it in the door, you can buy something like a Cascade Audio "Door Kit" that will kill those rattles, as well as take up some of the extra space inside the door (which will make the midbass tighter). Or if you want to get really hardcore, the best SQ (sound quality) competition systems build pods behind the midbass drivers in the door to make something like a little sub enclosure. By the way, those Kickers sound awesome! My best friend has a car audio store that specializes in Kicker, so I've helped him install them in a lot of different vehicles, and they definately play lower than they should for such a small midbass, they're perfect for your application, too, because they fit in the door.

P.S. I have some Alpine Type-X Components (special order, really nice speakers) with the midbass in the door. I just put a sheet of Dynamat extreme behind it, and there are no rattles with 200W RMS per side.

P.P.S. In that link to the Kicker midbass speakers that you put up, it says twice that they can be installed in the door, so you shouldn't worry about that. Also, by putting it in the door, you can put your components into some kick panels (you can buy some from Q-logic for like $150), and that will really improve your sound quality by aiming the midrange and highs at your ears.
