I have this unit. It is really dynamic as far as sound quality goes. Lots of power to run my MBQuart's. It has 3 preamp outs with somethin like 5V output. If you get the optional add on equalizer crossover the controls are built into the head unit.

The real reason for getting this unit is when the unit is off, the whole push button on the left blinks red which means that ESN is on. The ESN uses a key CD of your choice. So when you first get it installed, make sure you use a CD that no one has. Then once the unit has been electronically keyed, put the CD in a real safe place at home or other. If someone decides to steal your unit, they will never be able to use it without the key CD.

If you're looking for fancy features like multiple crossover points, designs on the display or other useless stuff, get an Alpine or Sony. If you have the extra $200 and want high quality and security, get the Eclipse.

JMHO.

That's an awsome stereo!!! I'm an installer at a car audio shop here in Florida and we carry Eclipse. We are the #2 dealer in the state of Florida right now. The CD5442 is our most popular stereo. Not only does it have the ESN feature if it is installed by an Eclipse dealer then you get a 3 year warranty and 1 year theft garrantee. If someone steels it out of your car within the first then Eclipse will replace it for free. Nobody else has anything like that. That's a sweet deck man. You can't go wrong with it.

Hey,do i need to have it installed by a local dealer,or can i buy it from an authorized dealer and put it in myself. I mean,my local Eclipse dealer wants 45 bucks to install it. I do all my audio stuff myself?

You got to buy it from an authorized dealer and get it installed by an authorized dealer to get the full 3 year warranty and one year theft garrantee. If you install it yourself then you only get a one year warranty and no theft garrantee. We also charge $45 labor to install a head unit. I would pay that to get extra 2 year warranty and the theft garrantee.
