DVD/nav players
DVD/nav players
1st Q: Does Navigation go hand in hand with GPS enabled headunit, or can you get navigation on a normal DVD flip-up unit?
2nd Q: I have a pioneer system, so I want to get a pioneer DVD/nav flip-up. Which ones have all three RCA plugs (red, white, yellow). Or do they all have just the white and yellow?
3rd Q: All the pioneer players I saw have a "feature" that you can only play DVD's in park. Is there a way to disable this?
4th Q: I want to put the new PS2 in my glovebox, where would I put the power convertor, how much are they, and how big?

Re: DVD/nav players
AVIC-N1 or N2 (new version) or N8 (double-din) and call it a day. you have a pioneer system, what does that mean?
the size converter you'll need isn't small, isn't large... you'll need to build a custom tray in your glove box which will require work to house both. you'll also want some form of cooling going on. similar to a p/c fan depending on what converter you buy so you don't burn up the electronics or your car.

Can you give me an idea, dimensions? Are there a lot of wires to connect? I doubt there will be room for the PS2 and the converter in the glove box, also no cooling should be necessary, as the only time the PS2 will be used is when the glove box is open, providing plenty of air, just like it is at home.
will the converter fit neatly behind the headunit under the dash somewhere? Does it really need a fan?
Re: DVD/nav players
you have pioneer components. speakers will attach to anything and they make adapters to do the same with the changer. check your local audio shop or the internet.
AVIC is their top of the line navigation/dvd/cd and everything else under the sun head units. the N1 was their first flagship navigation unit, the n2 is the new one and the n8 is the latest but it's a double din requiring alot of custom work to fit.
dimensions on the ps2... measure the ps2 and your glove box and you'll quickly see how much work is invovled. you'll pretty much need to redesign the glove box area. you can make both fit but it would be alot of work.. better off relocating the converter elsewhere. also, the first ps2's or larger ones do have fans so this is true, the thin ps2 does not and can not be mounted in such an area.. just make sure you have the old one. the cooling aspect is if you try to put both in a tight area as you'll want a fan then.
no the converter will not fit neatly in the dash anywhere, you'll have to make it fit... probably best somewhere up along the kick pannels or under the seat if you don't have much custom installation experience.
it might be worth it to you to spend 2-300 and have a shop do it for you.

Re: DVD/nav players
I have the n-1 and its nice does most everything, dvd, mp3, xm, etc
but I can say this. the n-1 you can just ground the e-brake wire and you can play dvds in motion
If you get the Avic-n2 or N-8 it will not let you play if the car is in motion and it senses this using the built in accelerometer so unless you can control gravity you SOL
The manufacturers all had simple ground type safety systems but are fearing litigation so they are incorporating more intelligent safety interlocks.

Re: DVD/nav players
How much is this n1 and n2? Is AVIC the brand? What RCA's does it have? yellow and white, or all three?
Why couldn't I put the slim ps2 in the glove box? I'll locate the convertor somewhere else. So heat will not be an issue. The ps2 will not be on with the glove box closed, so it wouldn't overheat.

Re: DVD/nav players
ok, you need to do some research on your own as it sounds like you don't really understand much about it.
here is the AVIC-n1
http://www.avic-n1.com/ most retail stores sell it for 1400-1800 plus accessories. if you search you can find it cheaper.
the newer unit is the AVIC-N2, just a little more cleaned up... better options and all around newer.
http://www.avic-n2.com/
this units msrp is 2,200 but you can find it for usually 1600-1800 if you search.
this is the AVIC-D1, requires some true custom work to fit in an f-body but makes for a cleaner installation with out the motorized face as well.
http://pioneerelectronics.com/pna/pr...219118,00.html
again this one retails for about the same..
rca's-all specs can be found above. yellow is video and for stereo you obviously need red and white. i have always loved pioneer, particularly premier version which is the step above but i didn't like the motorized face look so i searched around and ended up going with eclipse. much better picture, easier installation and for the AVN-5495 it's a double din just like the AVIC-d1 but it is a self contained unit so that you don't have all the little boxes to hide that you do with the pioneer older versions. for the same price the eclipse also has a 30 gig hardrive to record songs off the radio or off your cd so you'll never need your cd's again.
http://www.eclipse-web.com/avn/index.html
anyhow the point is search around as you can use your pioneer products with other radios if you'd like. you are not stuck with using just pioneer.
as far as the the ps2 issue. i described this, the small ps2 does not have a fan. therefore you don't want it anywhere in small, tight and confined spaces like the glovebox. the original ps2 is good for installing in cars, the small/slim one is not. if you have any more questions just ask.

Regarding the PS2. I'm not trying to be a dick or retarded or anything, but I'm not really seeing the problem with the small one. I chose the slim one because fittment would be much easier and lightweight. The way I had planned it was that when playing the ps2, the glovebox would remain open, and with the AC or the windows down, the ambient temperature that the system would be exposed to would be about the same as if it was in my house next to my TV. My fiance's sister has one and it doens't get very hot at all, in fact it stays cooler than my normal PS2. Like i said, not trying to be a dick, i'm just a little puzzled.
Oh, and thank you for all the great help and patience!
