custom box?
I got an 87 Iroc, anyone know where i can order a custom box for the trunk that will hold 2 - 12" or 2 - 10" subs? and real quick, what should i go with in your opinion, 2 ten's or 2 twelves? i know there's a difference in sound between the two sizes. just wondering what you thought about the idea. thanks.
Well, the previouls post is partly correct, and partly incorrect...
I can take a 10" and make it hit a LOT lower than a 12"... there are too many variables to make that blanket statement.
In reality whatever box you find, try to match the volume of the box to the subwoofer's recommended specifications; that's the MOST important thing.. Enclosure's MAKE or BREAK subwoofers...
try www.subthump.com Megabass on this MB is the owner and can offer some good advise about what subs work well in his enclosures.
Power is important, but not as much as the enclosure matching the speaker. An Audiobahn rated at 1200Wrms can sound like crap if not in the correct box, but a MTX base model ($50 speaker) with a 200Wrms can sound unbelieveable and hit like a **** if mounted in the proper enclosure.
If you feel you have the skills, you can always build an enclosure yourself, it's really not that hard as long as you have a jigsaw, circular saw, and a drill/screw driver.

I agree, My 2-10 inch Fosgates hit waaay lower than my two 12's!!! Here's the difference:
On the same amps (400 watt and 240 watt)
1) 2000 camaro- 12 inch Legacy's, 3/4 MDF side ported and liquid nail sealed well box.
2)86 Z28- 10 inch fosgate XLC's, custom lexan deck (bullet proof glass!!), 3/4 thick
You would'nt believe the difference in bass, my Z gets so low it shakes the ground (me likes lol) and thats on a deck that is not sealed. I'm actually about to re-do my whole system in the 2000 camaro to fiberglass and either 2 or 4 comp. sony 10's.

I also agree, I never thought I could do stuff on my own car (audio and interior wise) but look at my list now.
*fully custom interior in the Z
*built the box in the 2000 myself in a few hours
*installed and wired both sytems myself
*fiberglassed my amp rack
*Currently glassing the whole rear area (2000)and laying carbon fiber in both cars.
never sell yaself short.
