CD players

i am wanting to get a new cd player. i don't want to spend $500. i am willing to go up to around $200. i realize this isn't much but i found a place with pretty good prices. a $200 item here is similar to a $300 item at crutchfield or some other places for example. i just want to give you an idea on what kind of player i want. i am not sure what brands to consider. i am looking for the best sound, quality, etc for this price. it needs to have subwoofer outputs. any suggestions on brands or models would be great. thanks

Re: CD players

Crutchfield is pretty inexpensive compared to others I've seen. With a 200$ cap on your budget, your not going to find any kind of quality deck. Of course if Sony, Panasonic, and Sanyo are your cup of tea, then ignore me.

Now, for about 50$ to 100$ more, you can get a quality deck at crutchfield or local, with lots of features to suit your tastes.

Also, have you tried E-Bay?

[edit]

For that price range, I'd go with Pioneer at least.

Re: CD players

i can find much cheaper than crutchfield. i can probably find a $300 deck from crutchfield for around $200. i was thinking pioneer. i really don't know about the brands. i didnt know if the sony's were all junk along with panasonic, etc. there are only 1 or 2 alpine units in my price range and i doubt they have sub outputs. just for clarification, sub and preamp outputs are different correct?? i don't necesarily need a lot of features (besides sub outputs). i want great build quality and good sound quality. thanks

Re: CD players

do you think kenwood is better quality than pioneer? i have always been told pioneer is better quality. i do not necessarily care about the fancy thrills and astonishing looks. build and sound quality is on my high priority list. thanks for the response.

Re: CD players

sub output is a pre-amp output; and most HU's have either a dedicated sub-out, or a switchable rear/sub pre-amp output.

Myself; I'm a fan of the following: Alpine, Eclipse, the Excelsion (sp?) Kenwoods, Clarion. Other people love and have had great luck with Pioneer; OTOH, I've had horrible luck with Pioneer in the 10 years I've been doing car audio. Sony's OLD school stuff was great, since about '98-'99 their stuff has been pretty crappy. I've never used a Panasonic HU, but the JVC ones I've delt with usually lasted about 2-3 years before they started to have some real issues. I still have my original Alpine from '96 and it works damn good for how old it is; nothing majorly wrong with it, just a couple LEDs burned out in the faceplate; otherwise it works mint.
