cd changers? compatibility?

whats the deal with aftermarket changers? can they be used with any aftermarket deck? i was always under the impression they ahd to be the same brand

Since there is no industry standard for digital protocol you cannot mix and match car stereo CD changers.

thats what i said when someone asked me then they said someone esle told them any changer can be used with any deck.....so i was just making sure.

You can use a CD changer with any deck as long as the CD changer has an RF modulator. Basically you set up the changer seperate from your head unit. A little modulator then plugs into your antenna. You tune your radio to the frequency supplied, and you use the controller supplied with the changer to change songs/discs.

You'll get much better control and sound quality with less of a hassle from a changer that was meant to go with your deck.
