I was reading somewhere that it is not a good idea to do that. I have 2 Audiobahn 12" AW 1200Qs that have been sitting on my floor since March. Now I have the funds to get a semi decent amp like a JBL or Lanzar. What do you cats think?

No, you cannot "bridge" a speaker. Bridging is a function of a 2 channel amplfier.

You can either connect the VC's in series or parallel.

 

Those Audiobahns probably have dual 4-ohm voice coils. If that is the case, then you will want either a mono class d amp that puts out max power at 1ohm. Or, a 2ch amp that puts out max power when bridged at 4ohms. For the first one you would wire them in parallel, for the second option you would wire them in series-parallel.

If the subs do not have dual 4ohm voice coils, disregard this.

 

im pretty sure those subs are DVC 4 ohm, so if you wire that all in parallel, you get 1 ohm.

there are a few 1 ohm stable amps out....
MA audio Class x and HIgh Current
Orion XTR Pro (even though they dont claim it)
earthquake PHD2
DEI 1100D
theres some others that are good
or you can get a 2 channel, and run 2 ohm stereo or 4 ohm bridged

 

With two 4ohm DVC subs your wiring options are...

1) VC's in series and subs in parallel for a 4ohm load. (4ohms + 4ohms)//(4ohms + 4ohms) = 4ohms

2) VC's in parallel and subs in parallel for a 1ohm load. (4ohms // 4ohms) // (4ohms // 4ohms) = 1ohm

+ = series connection
// = parallel connection

so now one gets confused

 

You can wire them so that they bridge the amp. Act as if they are 4 speakers instead of 2. I wired my 4 ohm DVC type R's in my old system to bridge the amp. I paralleled the load of each speaker to 2 ohms and then seriesed them together to 4 ohms in on channel. You want to bridge subs so they run mono and hit at the same time. In stereo you won't get as much output.

YOU DO NOT BRIDGE SPEAKERS!

 

Run the coils not in parrell mode then run the amp bridged to the two subs.. That should give you a 2 ohm load

 

OK so maybe you don't bridge speakers. I was just wondering what would happen if I bridge a 4 channel amp to drive the 2 speakers @ 2 ohms, or something like that. I was trying to decide to get a 2 or 4 channel. Thanks for the advice.

 

If you want to that would work. You just have to find out the resistance that the amp can be bridged at. Say on a 4 channel you bridge to 2 channels at 4 ohms. Then you would have to have 2 or 8 ohm DVC speakers so you could wire the resistance to 4 ohms.

What do you mean by parallel vs. in sreies?

can someone explain in rookie terms, I have a set of fosgate DVCand they have connectors on each side, so how would you hook them up parallel and how would you hook them up in series?
