Bulldog alarm

I have over 2 grand worth of stereo equiptment in my car and a Bulldog alarm system sitting in my garage waiting to be installed. I've been looking at the directions and I'm not too sure I know all the right wires to look into. First off, is this a job someone with little electronics experience can do fairly easily? Also, if I can do it, I'll need to find some pictures of the wires in our cars(not just the diagrams, more specific photos) to make sure I'm looking at the right stuff even though their color coated, I just need to make sure. I'm gonna be searching around for install pics on the internet but if anyone has any quick help I'd appreciate it.
Thanks

Re: Bulldog alarm

It's fairly easy once you figure it out. Read the instructions atleast twice. If it's just the alarm and sensor then it is super easy. If it has a kill starter and keyless entry it's a little harder. If you give a little more detail on the options with the alarm it'll help. Keyless entry? kill starter?

Door Locks
Ok, in the installation manual you want to look at Type C door lock system (reverse polarity). Your alarm looks a little easier than mine was since your's does not use relays. The relays must be in the alarm brain, or something. Anyways, here is something I pulled off of cammandocaralarms.com

1] Non-keyless versions: Use light blue for lock and dark blue for unlock. Both wires are located in either door harness. The passenger switch is the master switch. Keyless versions: Use red/black for lock and orange/black for unlock. Both wires are located in the passengers kick panel at the keyless entry module. Do NOT use the orange power wire at the keyless module or door lock switch to power your door lock relays. The passenger switch is the master switch.

So if you originally have keyless from the factory, it's the red/black for lock, orange/black for unlock. You cannot miss these wires in the passenger kick panel. If you cut one of the wires the door switches will not work period, either lock or unlock. That's how you can know if it's the right wire (there's only one red/black, and one orange/black down there anyways). You should be able to follow the instructions from there. If you don't originally have keyless, use the passenger side since it's the master side, and it'll be the light blue and dark blue wires.

Parking light

This light is under the dash by the steering column. Comes from the parking light switch, and is brown.

Here is the site that tells what color the wires are, and where they are at.

Re: Bulldog alarm

Thanks a lot man. I also found another website that has some pics with it so I'm sure with the combo of both of those sites I should be fine. http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/fbody/alarm96up.htm I've been on this guys other sites and he seems to be pretty good so I'll take a look at both and try to get it done myself. Thanks again

Just skip over the part where it says stuff about the body control module. 95 down are a little different. Just use the red/black, orange/black wires at the keyless entry module.

Re: Bulldog alarm

make sure you have a digital multimeter and you test each wire to make sure it is the correct wire before hooking it up..

never just assume a wire in your car is the right one because it was the same in a different car.. i have seen some crazy stuff in the last two and a half years installing alarms.. always double check with a meter.
and also, just a FYI... dont use a "logic probe" or "test light".. they have very little resistance and will fry the computer system in your car.

Re: Bulldog alarm

Alright thanks, I'm probably gonna go at it this weekend. I just got done installing the siren according to the site above. I'm going to move onto the interior when I have some more time which won't be until later tomorrow and into Sunday I should have the whole day and hopefully get it done. I'm running out to Walmart soon to pick up a soldering kit and some of those other things mentioned on the site. I probably won't need to use most of it but they'll be good to have around in the future anyways.

Re: Bulldog alarm

Hey, I'm workin on installing the alarm and I need a little guidance as to where some wires are and the easiest place for me to get to them and what color they should be. First off, heres what I've done so far:
Mounted siren
Ran wire through the PCM grommet in the firewall
Connected it to the wiring harness of my alarm unit

Now I need to find the the wire running to the ignition switch. It says it's usually a "large gauge wire" and tells me to probe it and connect the red wire from my harness to it. Then find a chassis ground for my black wire, using the spade terminal. I need some help because I'm not really an electronics guy. Thanks

Re: Bulldog alarm

i hate to be the ******* here but i would reccomend taking it to a professional.

sure you can maybe spend a week doign it in your sparetime and do a crappy job.. or pay someone to spend a few hours and do it right.

afterall this is your alarm dude.

BUT in an effort to try and help ill state the wiring you are looking for will be in the ignition harness. you will have to use a DMM to find and verify each wire is the correct one. are you doing remote start as well? for a remote start will you need the starter wire, ignition one and two, and the constant power wire and the accesory wire. you will also need to know the difference between each and how to test for each.
the ground should be a no brainer. chassis ground.. make a ground. scrape off the paint on a metal part of the car that will lead the ground of the alarm back to the negative battery post and make your connection. without this wire the entire alarm will be useless.

are you going to install the keyless entry as well? cause you might need some relay packs.. i had to wire mine up as a 5wire system.. not something i woudl reccomend doing if you have zero experience installing alarms.

you will need to find an appropriate place to mount the shock sensor and the alarm. if the shock sensor is placed in a poor spot i will be able to break your window without the alarm going off (very easy with the porcelin on a spark plug..) then crawl into the car upside down and look under the dash for the alarm. pull the one fuse on the red wire and your entire alarm is useless.. a trained theif will know this. a good install will be nearly impossible for the theif to disable the alarm becuase he will not be able to find it or get around it.

Re: Bulldog alarm

Yeah I hear you on that one. I am installing the keyless entry as well. I already have all the panels off that will need to be taken off. I'll look around for a place that will do it. Maybe I'll save a little money since I'll take it to them already apart and have them give it back apart too and I'll put everything back on. I'm not mounting the alarm unit under the dash though. You'll have to go through some more paneling to get to it. Thanks though because that will probably save me a lot of hassle to take it somewhere.

Re: Bulldog alarm

yeah i hate to sound like a dick but this is like if i were to try and paint my car in my garage.. sure i can do it but its not going to be anywhere near as nice as if i were to take it to a professional.

somethings like steroe install speakers and amp instal are easy to do but an alarm takes a little skill.

i never claimed i could paint a car
