building a custom box

hey everyone i just wanted to tell everyone that over this winter break i decided on making a custom sub box in the hatch part of my camaro...it cost a total of $22.99, wow so much, it looks just like a subthump box but, its carpeted in poor quality material. the only part that i dont totally agree with is the ported holes, its hard to find plastic covers...it took a total of 8 hours, with trips to the local home depot. thought i'd let everyone know it is easy to make as long as you have the tools and doesnt take long, this was my winter project, besides the headlight covers, reverse indi gauges and mics other lil things. pics will be avaliable soon

I did the exact same thing last year around this time. I spent about $25.00 on the MDF, got some glue, spent about $10.00 on some Home Depotheads carpet, and a few other craps like tack spray. Nobody but myself could design a box to fit a nitro bottle and long *** Lanzar amp underneath, with the perfect space for 2 12" Audiobahns. The box and amp come out quickfast for time at the track or to throw stuff in the hatch.

Plastic porting tubes are about $1.00 at some downtown shops here.

Ditching the spare tire is absolutly NOT an option for me. Besides, people are hip by now and know where to look for a bottle.

I'll get some more pics Wednesday and have em by Thursday night. I got alot to do this week, like go downtown and get a fuse holder, have a beer, etc etc. There will be pics with the box inside the hatch. Plus I'll have measurements too. Unlike some other people, I won't even charge you NO MUNNEE for my "recipie".

Well guys...I've always wanted a stealth box because I didn't want to take up my t-top room.

But you are right Skull, you'd have to be almost stupid to spend over a 100 dollars on a small wooden box. Problem is...I have no prior experience with building a box, but I'm 18 - have a job and I'm dedicated to trying this.

So where can I start? You have to learn from somewhere right? Is there any guides or anything for your build? You had to have learned somewhere. Are there any books, guides, etc. that you suggest I pick up?

Thanks.

Nope!!! I learned from nowhere. Never did anything like that before but I probably could again. Always start with at least a drawing of what you want. I used alot of cardboard cutouts before building to make sure everything fit right. That would be my biggest tip. I didn't have any beveling (sp?) tools to make angle cuts, just a steady hand. My only tools were a jigsaw, a Dremel, and a screwdriver. I'm running a little slow this week so I will have more pictures and measurements by Sunday night at the latest.
