Bose + Headunit???

What is needed to add a headunit to a bose system? I did a search and came up with using this adapter. Is this needed? Ive heard about head units overheating and such with the bose unit. All I want is the ability to play a cd here, the stock cassette deck isnt cutting it anymore.

Re: Bose + Headunit???

Never heard about this one, but if it is the same as PAC ROEM-GM21, then it is the only thing you need to hook aftermarket HU to your Bose.

You should need nothing special I always use a standard wiring harness with no problem. I did this on my buddies 95 with bose over 2 years ago and no problems

What is the difference between a standard wiring harness and the ROEM-GM21? What will be the consequences of using a standard harness over the specialty one?

You guys have been of much help.

Standart = just wiring new HU directly to Bose. ROEM-GM21 = compensates impedance difference. A LOT of people run HU -> Bose directly, but I still wouldn't do it. It may cause HU failure and increase distortion.

I'd save your money from the adapter and save up another hundred or two and get you some decent components.

I have heard there is much involved (meaning more than just installing the head unit itself) when trying to convert a non Bose system car into one.

Is this true past just the head unit and wiring?
(sorry if I am thread hi-jacking here, but I thought it would be relevent)
