6x9's in rear?

I have some 6x9 infinity kappa's laying around from my old car and was wondering if they will fit for the rear speakers? Has anyone attempted to do this at all? I am new to this message board, but i know a few things about stereos... I just havent ripped my camaro apart yet. I have been reading tha they take 6- 3/4" speakers but since i got these 6x9's i was hoping i could make them fit. thanks

They may fit but the plastic panel you'll be attaching them to isn't anywhere near strong enough to adequately support the weight of the speaker. Not to mention the vibration/rattle problems you'll probably run into.

hmm.... good point. Think there is any way to reinforce the panel at all? i still havent taken the stock speakers out yet so i dont know whats under it at all. maybe i will do that tommorow... thanks for the reply though. As for the vibration im not too worried about that.. i will have 2 12" kicker solo-baric L7's vibrating everything anyways.

The stockers in the hatch area consist of a 4" mid and a .5" tweet. The speakers in the b-pillars are 6.75" speakers.

I was initially going to put 6x9s in my backseat too. I wanted that little extra unf that the 6.5s couldn't do. I got in there, and saw that it was possible to make work. It'd take some modification to get the speaker to fit right, and even more to keep it from rattling and what not.

that you can do. But you can also just dump the idea of putting the those in the car. I don't think you'll gain anything from them.

I'm sort of in the same situation. I've got some KEF 690Q "point source" speakers that are some of the best 6x9's ever made, and I'd love to use them. Most often you'll hear people say dump them because they're terribly inferior to round speakers. And, yes, an overwhelming number of awful 6x9's have been sold for "deck and two" installations in cars with that size rear deck holes.

If your Infinity's have significant depth or magnet size, they won't fit between the wheelwell and the rearmost speaker positions. Plus, the back wave off the cone would leak out everywhere and you'd lose whatever low bass the speaker is capable of producing. The rear seat side panel has a recessed mounting lip sized for a 6 3/4" round speaker, so to cut it to make room for a 6x9 would require a lot of sawzall work. When another size fits without any alteration, I would rather try to sell the 6x9's and get something to fit. I have seen one successful installation of 6x9's in the front doors, mounted diagonally, higher end toward the door hinge area. I have been thinking of trying that, but I may instead sell my speakers and get some Image Dynamics 2 ohm 6 3/4" midbasses.
