1997 camaro totally indash LCD and PC
After a couple months of plannin and putting stuff together, i finally installed a PC in my camaro.
Its an:
Asrock mircoATX mobo
256 mb ddr400 ram
60gig 7200rm maxtor harddrive
notebook DVDrom
7'' LCD scree with 400nits brightness(bright!)
Touchscreen kit
Creative sound blaster 5.1 digital soundcard runnin RCas to a alpine mrv-f450 amp
Opus 150w car dc-dc powersuply
Windows XP, mediaengine 2.05, lt1edit and Free scan digital dashboard/obd1 scanner
near future: D-link USB radio and iGuidance Ver 2.0 GPS navigation
It can play DVDs, one of my current 65 DIVX Movies, or one of my 1500+ mp3s. it also can show my cars data including engine paramiters and mph, boost, rpm on a digital dash board.
It will soon have the radio installed and GPS navigation
The only think i have left is buying the radio and gps like said before, and finishing up the cosmetics. I am going to bondo OR fiberglass the gap on either side of the screen later this week, sand and paint to match with textured paint. Should make for a near factoy look. Also, mold in the touch pad(in the ashtray) so it cant be sceen until you lift open the ashtray lid :naughty:
And now what you have all been waiting for......

Thats awesome! I almost did that but realized I'd die trying to navigate and just put a DVD player in instead. If you don't mind me asking... how much was it for all the hardware, how did you power the computer (DC-DC converter I hope), and how much for the screen? I bought a cheap Legacy 7.2" widescreen and regret it. It was only $100 and I don't watch movies too much (more for nintendo).

Nice! I lucked out and got a DVD player for $150 (the same price I sold my CD player for) then $100 shipped for a cheap screen still is fun. I almost did what you did, but doing it right was too much money for my to justify. I can't wait to see pics with the trim finished.

Bah, I envy you like none other. I had purchased a 10.5" touchscreen kiosk off mp3car.com, but never got around to doing anything more with it. I had left it one day, perfectly fine, and came back to find it laying on the floor and half the HD was toast. Never really picked it up and worked with it since then.
