Zeta Lite....brace yourselves.
Re: Zeta Lite....brace yourselves.
The fact that he said The C Word C****O was shocker for me, then after mentioning the "Twins" by name, the very next sentence starts out, " It's Going To Be"!!!,etc. ,etc! IMHO, this confirms there will be another CAMARO! Oh and he said FIREBIRD also, but then he did say "It's", not they! I also would asume they saw that poll! It's funny how ppl are all ready to jump ship, and give up the Best Damn Powertrain in the Biz, for the "Buggy Set-up" from "Across Town"! Then the General mentions maybe using a "Buggy Set-up" (I like that good way to put it), and thats not good enough!
Double Standard! I think its good news, I don't I'm confused.
I do agrrree, eefa de stinkin' badgez would pay forrr de damd IRRRSSS, den looza de damd badgez...CEE!!!
As GuY mentioned there are certain other issues, brakes I've brought up in other threads, certainly we can't go backwards with everything. Definately with the GTO interior out there now, and Cobalt, I would expect a 5th gen to get the same treatment. We do spend most of our time inside the car, so stuff in there should make you feel good about your choice!

I'm disgusted and sickened by this.

I'll just follow Doug's footsteps in a few years and pick up a low mileage Corvette. It shouldn't have to be that way though....

I just hope a the Camaro is good enough to win me over, I really like the current GTO
I'd probably hold out for a 6 speed auto version though (I can't have 21mpg in a car, save that for the truck)

No one is saying: "I don't like the idea but if it happens, I'll check it out first before I form an opinion", and that's telling.
If GM can do an IRS that's not going to turn the F-body into a porker, increase it's price significantly, and can hold up to abuse without needing a computer nanny, I'm all for it. On the flip side, make a live axle that can stay on the ground & tears up the curves, I all for that too.
BTW: I'd like to hear from people who have bought or driven this prehistoric live axle under the new Mustang besides me. What do you guys think?

Re: Zeta Lite....brace yourselves.
Again I ask, if the low-volume Kappa platform can come with a world-class setup including aluminum stamped suspension pieces and be priced SOUTH of $20,000 for the base model, why oh why is it so difficult for a new Camaro to meet its traditional price points? Can anyone answer this?
Maybe that live axle will work "ok" on a new Camaro in 2008 or whenever. I'm just sick and tired of GM's new models benchmarking everyone's old models. They will not stay #1 on their current path of little to no innovation, scarce class-leading products and unwillingness to do what it takes to make their product BETTER than the other guys'. Bob Lutz said right in his blog that the Cobalt having rear drum brakes was perfectly acceptable because the current Civic has them...whatever happened to the "We are GM and we're going to do things better" attitude that once made them so great? Sorry for the rant but my goodness....they are fighting public perception and they need product that knocks auto critics and the general public off their feet.

Re: Zeta Lite....brace yourselves.
I think what freaked everyone out is the reference to the Colorado rear-end...
I, for one, would be all for putting a Colorado's rear in a Camaro. Notice I said the rear, and not the suspension. Im just hoping Z284ever misqouted his source, and GM is actually thinking about the axle, and not the entire suspension.

That was a body on frame car that sat right on top of a GMT355 chassis. It was used as a showcase for a potential 300+ hp turbo line 5, AND as a study for the idea of bringing back body on frame in certain market segments.

The strut/live axle on my IROC seemed outdated to me in the '80s. I didn't wait 20 years to buy another one.

I have a V6 Camaro and I know what kind of suspension is under it. If and when a new pony car comes from Chevy and I decide to buy it, it will probably be a V6 (about 85% chance). I want IRS! My Camaro might have 45,000 miles on it buy then. If the new pony car has the same, or very similar set-up to my current Camaro, why would I need to trade it in?
Maybe Chevy will make the Nomad or some other 2+2 kappa. Then I'll be able to get IRS.
Re: Zeta Lite....brace yourselves.
OK Guy, you're my buddy....so I hope we can disagree without getting mean....
GM needs to make a profit alright. And every GM bigwig that has been interviewed over the past month has been telling us how GM will improve it's products to earn back the customers which provide that profit. If this proposal lives....I hereby call
on every single one of their comments. Believe me, I'm not shy about that.
On this product I believe it's a requirement. Camaro (and the rest of the former Zetas), are not going to just saunter in, in afew years and be successful by benchmarking a long gone Ford. The rumors out of Ford are that IRS will be widely available...if not standard on Mustang within 4 years. What do you know.....GM shows up a day late and a dollar short.......AGAIN.
Well, the difference is less than $300. The difference between a pickup truck rear suspension and a class leading IRS is less than $200. TWOHUNDREDFREAKINDOLLARS.
Ok maybe that's a comparitively large bit of money. I've heard of things getting cancelled because they cost $7......
But if $200 is going to give Camaro the sort polish it NEEDS to let it break ahead of the pack, or by the time we see it.......stay even with the pack.....it's money that needs to be spent.
Actually, re-engineering Zeta/Sigma/whatever for a live rear axle....will kill more time.

2. IRS isn't a requirement to sell a vehicle.
3. $300 is a trunkful of money.
