Woah...check out this interior!!
Re: Woah...check out this interior!!
I had a 95 GTP, loved that car and wish I kept it. They stopped making stick shift I thought in 93 - sure wish I had one in my 95. That 3.4 was a screamer of a motor and sounded mean as hell with just a k&n cone filter. Nice driving car, I preferred my GTP look over the redesign in 97. (but you can't deny the 3.8 s/c)
The 3.4 dohc unfortunately wasn't known for its reliability, however I never had any trouble with mine.

Audi A6 -

Why would anyone need that many buttons (the GTP or the A6)?

That brings back memories. My 89 GP didn't have all those buttons in the middle of the the steering wheel. Instead, it just had a square piece that you could pop out and hide your pot behind.

Re: Woah...check out this interior!!
I personally love that interior. My gta also has the steering wheel controls as does my GFs 4th gen.I would love to get one of those but the 3.4 DOHC sucked from everything i have read and the 3.1 is way underpowered.
Re: Woah...check out this interior!!
slt,
Won't ask how you know that
.
As for the 5 speed question, '93 was probably the last year because I don't ever remember seeing any GPs with the '94+ dash with the stick. Doesn't mean for sure there were none, but I'd bet against it.
As for GP reliability, why do you think I own mine??
No one has to sell me on the reliability of a W body. I bought it with the intent to run it to 200k. With all the new cars out there (and me still working at the dealer for now), I'd love to sell it for a new GP, as I've said a million times before. But, looking at my checkbook, my dad's Formula and all those pretty IROCs on eBay, I may put 250k on it before I get rid of it

Re: Woah...check out this interior!!
Yep, looks familiar to me.
My '90 TGP is almost the same deal, but with the factory CD player in place of the cass and camel coloring. The TGP also came with 2+2 seating, which was a rarity for W-bodies and only had three options; leather seats, cd player, and sunroof. Mine has the CD and sunroof and only 51,000 miles. With only a few thousand made, I'll keep it!

Re: Woah...check out this interior!!
I was thinking of your car when I saw this thread. Too bad the turbos didn't have a stick available. Even without it, what a ride
There was one for sale locally a couple years ago...otherwise, I've never even seen a TGP!

Re: Woah...check out this interior!!
Back in the 90s a friend of mine had a '92 Lumina Z34 with the 3.4L DOHC but it was an auto and not very fast, my '91 Cavalier RS vert w/3.1L MPI V6 with a 5-speed was faster at least up until 100 mph or so. Anyways he really beat on that thing and never had a problem with it, except one time he took out the air filter, that way it would make that mean sound and during a full throttle run something that was loose under the hood got lodged in the intake butterfly and the car was stuck at full throttle. After he finally got the car stopped he needed front brakes and rotors because they were roasted. Needless to say he never tried that again.
By the way those Luminas back then had a even worse dashes, very spread out and sparse.
I believe the GP dash in that pic, is from the late 80s or very early 90s because later models had air bags, so no big buttons on the streering wheel, and the 3.1L could have been had with a 5-speed in the late 80s in the GP GT.
The 3.4L DOHC cars with a 5-speed are pretty rare, especially in the Olds Cutlass Supreme.

Re: Woah...check out this interior!!
Girl I was friends with a few years back had a white Lumina Z34. I thought it was one hot looking car...then I saw the interior
I swear my 5 year older Turbo Coupe I had at the time had a nice interior.

Re: Woah...check out this interior!!
Hey, that's kinda funny...I dated a girl back around '96 when I was 16 who had a '92 Lumina Z34, in white with a blue interior. Yeah it was hideous inside...but the back seat was really nice. Really, really nice...
I'll stop there
What a great thread...slt is reminiscing about steering wheel pot exploits and I'm remembering my high school days. Thanks, GM

That Lumina made me look like an *** though because one day she needed a jump (the battery was dead
)...and I opened the hood and was like where is the battery
. She was like ...oh this happened before and my dad just hook the cables up to these post...showing me how. A little part of me died that say
I would hate to have to change the battery on one of those things....

1. Get motivation (Beer)
2. Disconnect factory strut-to-frame brace.
3. Move strut brace out of way.
4. Disconnect washer fluid tank out.
5. Move washer tank as far out of the way as possible (not far is possible).
6. Screw off screws that hold the c-clamp on the turbo's hose.
7. Remove turbo hose.
8. Get more motivation.
9. Try to unscrew the posts with the minsicule amount of room you have to get a socket into.
10. Zap! Sparks just flew all over.
11. Get another beer.
12. Once you get the posts off, get that lovely cover off the battery.
13. Put the fuse block cover back on since you knocked it off taking the battery cover off.
14. Pull battery out will even less room than you though you had before. (Note: Get Band-Aid ready for the skin you will scrap off from the sharp fender forms)
15. Re-assemble, sans battery, for winter storage.
Gosh I love looking forward to this every spring and winter!!!
Re: Woah...check out this interior!!
I think I'd move the battery to the trunk.
I dint even know they put manuals in the GPs back then. I saw an advertisement once that had a 5 speed in the Cutlass Supreme but never saw any in person that I remember.

Re: Woah...check out this interior!!
I would think you would need some sort of certificate (with certification!) to be allowed to drive that thing..
Ive seen aircraft carriers with less buttons.
