Thats what Im trying to say. There is as much speculation as to what Fords will use the D2C chassis as how many GM cars will use Zeta here in the US. But based on all this info, there sounds as if there will be more Zeta cars then D2C cars, here in the NA and the world.
Will the Ford Falcon use the live axle? I would think that it would get a IRS unit that will end up under some super-stang.

But let me get this right... the Mazda 6 will merge with the Mustang? Explain?
Not MERGE with...
They will be made in the same building on the same line.
Do a search under "Auto Alliance"... you can read about it all day.
They were giving out line cards about Auto Alliance at the Nashville Show, and had reps there talking about the joint venture. I have the card at home that covers everything you wanna know about it... from line size and capacity, to depatmental floor plans, to shift hours, # employees, and plant JE's.

They are concentrating on sharing as much as possible between the two cars to help maximize synergies and minimize stocking and distribution issues in the plant.
Like IREngineer said, they technically are not on the same platform, but for all intents and purposes they might as well be stablemates. With the upcoming revamp of the Mazda 6, expect to see more common peices.

One last thing along these lines...
The reps from Auto Alliance were bending over BACKWARDS to express their committment to the Mustang. They were making comments like "We are greatly honored to have the legendary Mustang coming from our facility." and "We will do everything possible to ensure that you, the Mustang fans, will be happy with the quality and craftsmanship put into these cars" and "We want to be known for producing the best quality Mustang ever built." This stuff was everywhere in the tent.
Mark my words... the quality of this new car will be on (or above) par with what we've been seeing in industry lately. Now if Ford's engineers got to use the correct materials and processes for the car... it should be all set for a great launch.

Lets hope, because I like the mustang prices, just not the car. I always told my self that I would never buy a car brand new off the lot, but if the numbers look like that, I might be temded to.
when i bought my 2002 mustang, i bought the base model, bare boned bottom of the barrel. it had all the options you could want (no leather since i live in california though). i bought it really cheap, at invoice price and thats before many rebates. getting a 'premium' mustang only means a 'better' oem stereo, maybe nicer rims (still oem) and other oem changes. to me, that just wasn't worth it when aftermarket radios and rims are the best way to go premium.

as far as bang for buck, no one can beat a mustang, because i shopped around for a while and the only other car i considered was the rsx, and that was quite a bit more.
