Monte Carlo is the only so called "coupe" left in NASCAR, and Monte Carlo is the ONLY vehicle that is marketed completely around NASCAR. Not Intrepid, not Taurus, and not Grand Prix (before Pontiac pulled out completely).

your responce to chevy making the Jeff Gordon monte carlo is that the owners that buy them are idiots??? get a clue.
do I know that the the nascar version of the MC is nothing like the street version? yes. would a buy a jeff gordon mc if i were a jeff gordon fan? yes. why, because racing fans are loyal, and studies have shown that. and if your not a racing fan, then you're never going to understand.
If I'm not mistaken The SS makes up about a third of anual Monte Carlo sales (or 20,000 cars annually). Only 2424 of Jeff Gordon Monte Carlos were produced out of a total of 60-70,000 cars. That makes this a very limited edition car. The Gordon edition MC is a great looking car, and will be a good investment. If I wanted to make an investment on a car, I'd buy one. I'm not a NASCAR fan. I'm sure over half of the people who bought one (NASCAR fan or not) didn't buy it only because they are a Jeff Gordon Fan. That's what "NASCAR santioned" t-shirts and ball caps are for.

the only series that has actural street car is SCCA, and how many people actualy watch that series. it's a heck of a lot less then Nascar. a manufactures knows that over 4 billion people watch nascar, thats advertising!!!!! why else do you think GM spends more money in nascar then in SCCA???
You just hit on the head exactly what's wrong with NASCAR. It's an event to advertise, not a race. The cars are a joke, and when they go to a standardized body, the neutering will be complete.

The good things about NASCAR however, are the drivers and the teams, where real competition still exists.

Why do some Japanese brands want to get into NASCAR? To gain more acceptence to the "buy American" crowd. NASCAR is seen as exclusively American. The ability to compete in the series will, in their view, will help create more sales by decreasing resistance to a demographic that is traditionally against imported cars. In short, it's a marketing move based on NASCAR's own stereotypes.

as a fan of nascar, sure I would love to have them get back to the days of running your street car at the track, but I also understand the major concern of safety. there is no way that you are going to slow down a car equivilent of 300 hp with an aero package (cause that about what they do with the restrictor plate).
I don't necessarily want NASCAR to return back to the street car days again, because there's a race class for that already. I'd prefer that they return to bodys that copy production cars, and stop piling on rules aimed to eliminate fair advantages between cars.

Also, if engine technology gets to the point where races need to be slowed down, logic would dictate shrinking engine displacement or going to smaller V6s. But restrictor plates??

If you dont think that a company being in NASCAR doesnt sell cars, there was a poll taken about if you would consider a Dodge if they were in NASCAR, 33% said they would consider buying a Dodge if they were in NASCAR. Also some of the LS1 technology came from NASCAR. If you dont think there is much tech in NASCAR, I think you will have a hard time understanding why Toyota will have problems in this series, I dont see them being very successful.

NA_CAR is a racing series. It is what it is.BUT they NEED to leave the word stock out of their name and the announcers need to quit comparing their "far from stock" race cars to your momma's Taurus...That it self is a joke.I would like to see them bring in newer technology. But they cant keep the rules the same from week to week how could they have the brains to keep EFI'ed cars legal..And why in gods name dont they go to one lug nut for quicker pit stops?Nothing else is stock?

How many of you know a LS1 cylinder head will fit/bolt on a 351W FORD.???I wonder where that technology came from........

Where did you hear this?

What I dont understand is how everyone rips NASCAR, but in NHRA the Pro Stock cars are far from stock and they even refer to them as the "Factory HotRods". I for one dont want the cars to go to EFI and TC. That would just get fid of the better driver and the team that has more ideas from winning. I dont want to see a even feild, I want to see who ever comes up with the better ideas.

Im not surprised you havent heard of it.I took an engine building class 2 years ago,A couple of guys from Reher Morrison where there and another gentleman who's shop builds NASCAR engines.Someone brought it up in our daily teaching one day.And they "had" heard about it.Im pretty sure the there were some slight mod's that needed to be done but @ that time the guys who were putting the heads on this engine were fab'ing an intake system for it.(as per the NASCAR engine builders comment)You can think this is laughable. But I know what I heard in the discussion.Credible source? How many guys do you know do this on a daily basis?I tell it to you like this.Ask around.Top notch custom engine builders in your area should of heard of this by now?The questionable part is this,-Did it run.
