I'd like to quickly point out that part of the gas price issue right now is that the Dollar is really weak. If the Dollar went up to where it was 3 yrs ago the price of oil in U.S. $ would go down probably under $40/barrel. Gas prices would come down some because of that but not a great deal simply because we are short of refinery capacity here.

SUV's may or may not take a dump in the very near future because of fuel prices, but pickup trucks will still be dominant in the market. The idea that GM is pulling the trucks ahead is a good thing in many respects. In two years or less there are going to be a lot of folks ready to start working on cars again... with lots of RWD experience...

too bad the "great" Armada is a sales Flop. Same goes for the gas pig Titan. Nissan keeps missing it's sales goals by good amounts. With gas prices climbing I don't expect a 2nd generation of either truck.

People just love something to bitch about IMO. They'll keep paying it because we all have to. Yes if it hits $4 a gallon that's going to start to really hurt, and it will hurt low income workers first for whom gas is a much bigger % of their budgets. But some pain is necessary for market forces to push alternatives along.

They too are building a brand new dedicated truck plant. The new truck coming out of that plant will be either the 3rd of 4th generation.

2. The Equinox is SUPPOSED to be the replacement for the nasty (and it was nasty) Tracker and venerable S-10 Blazer so I don't really understand why that's the "best" you can say. Looks like mission accomplished to me.
3. Won't the lack of a third row seat in the third generations of the CRV and RAV-4 severely limit their sales potential?

Nah, I think the Titan appears to be a great light duty truck.
BTW, Cadillac EXT will do 0-60 in 8 flat too.. My Avalanche with the 5.3 is timed at mid 8's, which I believe..
I believe the 8L trucks and disiel trucks would actually do 0-60 in the 8's too. They've got massive amounts of tq, and a touch more hp, but weigh in at least 1000 lbs more... so it equals out.
I'd like to see the new GM trucks and SUV's.. I can definantly see them doing well in powertrain, if they do come with the new Ls2 based 6.0L V8's, and better 6 speeds.. However, I wonder what GM will do about the interiors..
I also wonder if these interiors and 6 speed auto's will bolt into the existing trucks too..

I didn't read all of the replys but I thought I'd add that a girl I know bought one brand new, and it has been in the dealership 9-10 times for all kinds of crap. Sounds like a POS.
