Thanks for the link.

1983 still only had 3 displacements, the LQ8 and LQ9 are pretty much the same engine but with different inductions, hell the hp and tq #s are the same. same goes for the LU5 and L69, just different inductions.

I think what most people here want is different displcements. not same displacement with different HP #'s , its like saying the 310HP LS1 and 325HP LS1 were different engines.

I know technically the three 5.0L V8's had different mechanical things about them but the avg. consumer won't care. all they see is displacement and HP, no different to them than the LS1 thing.

When asked what engine was in there 1983 Z28 I bet most people just said "305"

That website (and all other 3rd gen engine lists I've seen) fails to mention the LL1, which is the 2.8 H.O. available on Berlinetta and Firebird S/E, I believe. That's why I took it upon myself to provide the list myself. My 84 S/E has the LL1, but you'd never know it existed, from looking at that website. click sig link below to see my S/E.

As far as I'mconcerned, if they put different engine codes on different motors, they were different enough to qualify as a different motor. To say all those V8's are all just a "305" is pretty short-sighted and it doesn't change the fact that the third gen had variety which caused it to be successful. They were all 305's, but each was a distinct level of 305.

Like if the 3800 is one side of a river and the LS1 is the other side of the river.. would you rather try to jump across all in one step and end up drowning, or would you like some help from some stepping stones? That's where the 3rd gen shines and where the 4th gen fails miserably. I think this is all relevant to the subject at hand.

Cookie-cutter mentality is inherently flawed. Variety (within the same model) drives sales.

There must be 3 engines available on the next Camaro, and they all must meet the performance market in their own way. At the same time, there can't be any "throw away" engines.

There should only be one V8 engine. I see redplanet's point of the relative uselessness of having multiple V8 engines (I once strongly disagreed with that). That one V8 can have different heads, or maybe a different cam, but offering say a 5.3 then a 6.0 isn't worthwhile, especially if there are V6s that will offer the same performance.

A IL4, V6, and V8 is a good spread across the spectrum, and GM should make sure all are top performers in their respective fields. The 4 cylinder model must not be looked at as a "economy" or "base" engine, or else, though I seriously doubt it will bring the entire line down, will be shunned by enough people to make it the joke of the line (see: Fox Mustang of post 1986, or early 3rd gen Camaro).

A 4 cylinder Camaro again?? I don't know, I'd have to be convinced more about that 1.

IMO there should be 2 V8's and 1 V6. As many as possible to give the buyer choice, not a 10HP difference.
