FAST FORWARD TO 2010. The Firebird is reintroduced after an 8 year hiatus. It is completely panned by all the purists for not having a "screaming chicken" on the hood....just like the real Trans Ams had in the mid to late '70s.

SLP comes up with a $3,000 decal set...everyone is now happy.

I can honestly see this happening...if you look real close at the solstice, then look at a Green(don't know why green)1st gen vert Bird...you might see some similarities, i know i do. Pardon me for being illiterate but i don't even know how to say...Solstice Give it 4 seats, a V8 option...and if thats not possible a Turbo 6 for the top level...it will definetly give it new direction while still mantaining the Turbo 6, for enthusiasts and people that know about the about the Birds(Trans am) history.

I still think back to the day the announcement was made that the F-body was going on "hiatus"....they didn't say the Camaro was going on hiatus and "the firebird will be retired". This is all just wishful thinking, because i myself do not want to see the camaro come back without the bird..if we can only have the camaro then i'll have to live with it.

Also, i don't know to much about the newer chassis and platforms...but what else is a unibody? besides the F car? Just asking because i know i've read that the Solstice will be a unibody...?

everytime i read something like this...something that would be kick *** for my future...i get all excited and say "yea thats gonna happen, exactly..." so sorry if i'm a little overconfident

I think we need to pool our resources here and look into this--I remember seeing it on Cliff Pennock's Fiero Forum but I'm not sure they have the same connections that we do. Do you still have the URL and information for the picture and the car show it was at, for starters?

Now that's a car that would be perfect for the hole underneath the GTO in the Pontiac lineup! A V6 (or even turbo V6) mid-engine Fiero GT is probably not the first choice on this board, but that is a car that would have my interest peaked. Modern styling, $25-30k pricetag in top trim, and a much better alternative to any S2000, Miata, or MR2. The Solstice (Firebird?) may do the same thing for Pontiac, but doing something midengined and giving another poorly treated nameplate another chance sounds more exciting to me. Not to mention this wouldn't result in compromising the history and character of the Firebird name.

You all have seen the Firebird concept its called the Solstice....
If the Camaro returns is a long shot the return of the Firebird as it was before is almost too slim a chance to talk about.

Sorry, but it seems the Bird's spot has been filled by the GTO.

I actually see the GTO as more of a 2-Door Grand Prix replacement than a Firebird replacement...

I think GTO is much closer to the GTP formula than the Trans Am formula... RWD vs FWD not withstanding.

Add V8 powered to that list.
