I'm working on a Firebird Concept, I'll be showing it with my new stuff sometime this fall, so there's one you can expect to see And there have been a couple I've seen, a while back ago on some other board.

Considering that all the pictures and concepts you've seen of Camaro is simply various people's ideas, and not something that's come directly from GM, I wouldn't worry too much about this just yet.

Bottom line, is there a chance (or how great is the chance) that the Firebird returns alongside Camaro? I've always had my doubts because of the image that Lutz wants for Pontiac (blunt muscle car for the masses versus smooth, clean, mature styling in the BMW mold).....

I thought the "word" was if the Firebird comes back, it won't necessarily be a sister car of, nor based on the same platform as the 5th gen Camaro.

If we thought mums the word regarding Camaro, multiply that by 100 for the Firebird.
But this is Pontiac's way of doing things lately.

There are NO specifics whatsoever regarding the Firebird. Not even Bob Kraut saying "have faith".

There will always be a need for a Firebird and Trans Am.
GM just needs to be convinced of it.

What about the 90 fiero gtp which was sporting a trans am gta badge at an auto show in Louisville last august? Car was also shown in hot rod magazine's july story about GM's desert proving grounds. It has a 3.2L dohc v6. GM never had a production 3.2L like that back in the 90's, but the 2003 Cadillac CTS does have a 3.2L Dohc v6 with 220 hp. Very interesting

I am a Firebird fan, but let's be honest here...

The fact that there have been next to zero freelance concept designs for Firebird... yet there has been MANY for Camaro... that says a lot ... doesn't it?

Sad, but telling.

Seems public intrest in Firebirds is pretty near non-existent, and I'm pretty sure the guys at Pontiac has picked up on this. I'm guessing They'll either retire the Firebird name for good, or use it on the production Solstice since it's actually a modern version of what Pontiac initially wanted Firebird to be before they were forced to use Chevy's Camaro.

I still wouldn't agree with this. Regardless of what Pontiac wanted to do back in the mid 60's, Firebird was the Camaro brother for 35 years. Chucking that out the window doesn't make sense. I also don't see the point in calling Solstice anything other than Solstice. That is the name that has been in everyone's mind.

Really, I think the only people that are aware of the Solstice are people like us. If the Solstice is called Firebird, I don't think many people will complain...in fact, it may be a good way to get some sales mileage out of a name with equity.

Who knows maybe the 2 seat roadster will be called the Solstice and the 4 seat coupe built off the same platform will be called the Firebird.

I doubt that anything other then a V8 Firebird will have loyalists as upset as if Chevy put the Camaro name on a 4cyl. (even if that 4 cyl was an excellent car like the Solstice).

I say keep the Solstice name and start fresh.
