Why don't Chevy cars have Nav??

Think about it, GM would have to design two different dashes....one with the hole and hardware for the system and one without...which costs money...which certainly gets passed on to the consumer somehow. Maybe Scott can chime in with thoughts.
I just think before we all get gung-ho about all the latest gadgets being on the next Camaro we should know all the facts. Mustang is not available with a nav system, correct?

The design would not be that expensive if done right. The only diffrence between the regular dash and the nav dash in my Titan is a fascia that snaps in place. Its a $40 item from the dealership. It does not have to be a completely diffrent dash if its planned in the design.

With the new Civic offering it, it most deffinatly has to be an option.
Nav along with HID headlights are big items that people are willing to pay for. Later on down the road they can incorperate OnStar into its trafic reporting, which I belive the CTS has starting this year.
Impala should deffinatly have it since the GP does, and LaCrosse is embarassing without it. Epsilon cars should have one as well along with Theta and Delta. Offer it in the Kapps...hell EVERYTHING!!! They all use universal radios anyway, it shoul dbe plug and play.

Navigation is great. I borrowed a car with navigation for a long road trip. I drove until I got tired, pulled up all the local hotels on the map, and then dialed the provided phone number, booked a room and then told the Navi system to "take me there".
GM is going to be caught behind the times again if they don't start putting it in more cars.
I just wish it wasn't a $2000 option from everybody. Seriously....think about it....
Portable DVD Player with LCD screen $200 from best buy
GPS Device from LL Bean: $200
Mapping software from Best Buy:60$
I get $450-$500 tops, and that doesn't include the fact that companies usually save money by integrating things together into one unit. So what's the other $1000-$1500 going for?

A couple of days ago, after biking in a city I don't go very often my GF said she wanted some ice cream. She wanted Baskin Robins, as it's $1 Tuesdays. So I called 411. Got the address. Punched it into my PORTABLE navigation system and VOILA!!! $1 ice cream on a warm evening!!
I WANT A NAVIGATION IN MY NEXT CAMARO.... and I don't want it to be a 2 grand option like it is now, that is Crazy!!
And please put some decent rims on the car. It makes a huge difference. SS should be 18" and Z28s and even V6s should be 17s, IMHO.

Plus it is fun to watch your car drive around the streets on the map.
Re: Why don't Chevy cars have Nav??
Well it'll definitely be coming down in price as an option until it becomes standard. In terms of cost, FWIW, I know several of them also have a hard drive or DVD drive and backup cameras which would add some to the cost.
But really... do you think that it REALLY costs the manufacturer a full thousand dollars to stick a movable glass window with a hole in your roof? What do you think the cost of the parts for seat heaters really is? What about paying 700 dollars for an upgraded stereo when it costs them like 50 dollars in parts.
The answer is that quite a bit of that money is going into R&D and other expensies. And especially with a new tech like nav and especially one where not that many people want to pay for it yet, that does a poor job of spreading out those overhead expenses into the masses; making the true cost of nav in a vehicle even higher.
It's like back when power windows and power locks were a big issue... you could easily spend the equivalent of over a grand for the two together back when they were less common. Back then do you think they cost nearly that much? Now that they're almost impossible to not find in a new car do you think they really cost that much less in terms of parts? No. It's just the R&D and production costs have long since been eaten up and what's left is spread out among the masses.

Re: Why don't Chevy cars have Nav??
Nav, IMO, is completely worthless for me personally. I possibly needed it twice now in 2 years...both times going to BG...and both times I spent 10 minutes at AAA with a trip planner who spelled it all out for me. I'm one of those fools that actually, you know, uses this thing called a MAP
Otherwise, considering what a Camaro will be for me (sunny day/weekend car), its hardly something I care about. That said, having at a $995 option or whatever will probably be useful to a lot of people, and up the cache of the car.

Jason_E, if you ever had to drive around NYC area you would be very thankful for the Nav.
Big Metro areas is were it would be handy, it is also nice to see when a turn is coming up.

Re: Why don't Chevy cars have Nav??
I would like a nav.
Driving with a map is a royal pain in the *** in a place you're not familiar with. It's especially painful for me since I only have one (good) eye to devote to driving with. A voice nav system would be incredibly useful for those times I head into the unknown.
I'm pretty good at following directions, but I'm not perfect and nobody gets "the first time" in a new locale right. Working on making nav systems more accessible on many cars, not just the Camaro, would be a good goal for GM to go towards.
But then it would cut into OnStar subscriptions, since people can't call for directions! Oh noes! :P
