An aftermarket converter should have a higher stall speed. That means the rpms should have to go higher to produce the same roll as a stock converter. Depending on the aftermarket converter, your car may actually roll backwards on a hill without gas.

I bought the car with a bunch of mods done, is it possible that an aftermarket torque converter is causing this? I know my previous car, a 96 RS, didn't do that.

All I know for sure that's been done to the car is the supercharger, headers, exhaust, and the rear end has been built...

Where is your idle set at? A high idle speed will allow the car to push harder against the torque converter.

Is you aftermarkert converter a tight or loose one?

Like I said, I bought the car with a bunch of mods already done, but the only ones I know for sure about are the obvious ones - basically meaning I don't know if it has an aftermarket stall converter or not...

I need to get the car tuned - it does idle high, so maybe changing that will fix it... I thought it was normal for a forced induction car to idle above 1K.

We'll see.

I have never heard that forced inductiuon cars idle high. Especialy v8's. I had a friend with a turbo mustang that idled at 750.

My brother's '85 Chevy truck used to idle extremely fast (very screwed up Quadrajet). He could literally go 50 mph without touching the gas. One time we were at a red light and his truck started doing a brake stand on it's own.

How's that do with gas mileage, and doesn't that make you launch pretty hard all the time?

I will eventually get an aftermarket converter, but I don't want to feel like I'm at the track every time I leave a light...

No, you launch like a civic if you dont get the rpms too high. If you floor it you will launch VERY hard.

I've got a 3500 and it can definitely be an annoyance around town sometimes. I have to give it nearly half throttle to keep up with other traffic, so it would probably suck in a daily driver. I had a 2500 before this one and it just felt like the stock converter.

With my TSi if I'm going about 5mph in 1st gear It will just keep going forever without touching the gas. Nice for rush hour traffic.
