Capping Speedos to get people to slow down is ignorant. People will simply bury the needle. Same deal with Governors. People just hack the computer. Who has the right to tell you how much any gauge on your car is allowed to read???

Probably never will be ready for something like that, especially on the coasts where people are packed as it is.

I can think of several reasons for not increasing the speed limit ranging from the cheap bastard that likes to put S - rated tires on a car capable of going 150+ to the pissed off old man in the left lane playing highway do-gooder going 10 miles under the speed limit to the almost universal lack of basic maintence performed on vehicles.

I heard on the radio Florida passed legislation for really excessive speeding (50 mph over) mainly due to crotch rockets (ultimately leading to a 10 year suspension for 3rd time offenders IIRC)

I maxed the 140 speedo in my GP, but I was on the QEW it was in klm and I was still being passed. In that car it made sense because if you put it in klm you realisticly wuold utilize it. In other cars, who cares, speedos aren't generaly accurate at high readings anyway.

Yeah my buddys 5 speed ranger was "really fast" not by him but other people thought so. The best was the guy who put an amp in his truck and said "ever since I put that amp in, it really flys"
me: "your saying the amp made it faster.... that doesn't make any sense"
him: "I don't know but it does"

awesome

The highway speed back in the day was 55 and it was determined that that was them most efficient speed to drive fuel economy wise.

I'm happy with my speedo.

Though I think the car has a governor set at like 169. Probably take a long stretch of road to hit it, if it's even possible.

So that when you change the cam and adjust the limiter, you won't need to get a new tachometer.

I think speedometers should reflect what the car can actually do. One of the more frustrating things about my T-bird SCs was that they could easily exceed 140 and even 145 mph, but had a 120 speedometer.

"Just about" my a**..... my current (and as far as I'm concerned, final) personal speed record of 158 mph (the needle actually passed the numbers & rested on the steering column hump) was done in my 97 LT1 powered Camaro on a straight level 10-15 mile streach of I-8 in Arizona back in 2002, witnessed by my co-passenger/son (yea, in retrospect it was a terrible idea). Since the more powerful 2002 should be at least 5 mph faster, I'm pretty sure it would have also used the entire speedo.

The governor in your GTO is set at 155mph.
