While the PT Cruiser and New T-bird went from prototype to production very quickly it was based on the fact they were virtually guaranteed to go into production from the onset of the prototype showcar. The PT and T-bird also shared a huge amount of existing parts and shared platforms that reduced their time in developement .

If GM unveils 2 new RWD prototypes during the January 2003 autp show circuit I would bet the absolute soonest they would see product would be fall of 2005 as a 2006 model. The more likely scenerio would be a spring or fall of 2006 launch as a 2007.

Correct on all counts. But I suspect that if GM displays more than a few RWD cars, they will use either off the shelf components or be a chassis they are developing currently (The Solstice was more Mr. Lutz's comming out car).

So far, this is GM's RWD lineup at next year's NAIAS:
* A large Cadillac concept
* The GTO
* A Chevrolet coupe
* A concept sports car (possibly an evolution of the Solstice)
* Another concept sports car (possibly a concept version of the next Corvette)
* A possible Pontiac sedan
* Introduction of Cadillac's crossover vehicle (will come in RWD as well as AWD)
* And finally, the likely display of Cadillac's new STS.

You can also include the production versions of CTSi & Chevy's retro truck (assuming it doesn't get cancelled).

I wouldnt be surprised for GM to show a concept CTSi convertible @ NAIAS.

The convertible concept would most likley lead to coupe and convertible versions of the CTS.

I think GM in a couple years might send off some new GTO's to ASC to have their tops chopped of and made into convertible GTOs to sell for a premium.
