What's going to happen after Lutz???!
You don't want that job.
The only reason Lutz has succeeded where everyone else failed is because he has a history in the industry longer than I've been alive (as old as I am), he's essentially run a company before (Chrysler), he knows the insides & out in getting a car produced, and he was wise enough to know he needed a Chairmanship position accountable only to the CEO to effectively deal with the BS of a bureaucracy the size of GM and a CEO willing to grant him full authority over all new products.
Even with all of that, the GM culture attempted to chew him up, and he still lost his fair share of battles and had to essentially create a secret conspiracy to get the Camaro to market without the rest of GM's nitpickers deraling it.
Then top to it off, he's GM's global chief. He's more than got his plate full.
I don't even want his job!

I would love the job of putting the GM nitpickers (I like that) in their place. What, do they own toyota stock? Are they trying to bankrupt GM, they should be thrown out on their collective asses, and fed to the sharks, with the rest of the chum! I have backed Lutz since the beggining, when most were trashing him. He was/is, the man for the job, and it was always clear to me. I hope he lives to be 120, and stays right where he is.

Really - Homer wrote better mythology and Paris Hilton ... well...>><<
He is still unproven as far as accomplishments.
But still yet a small piece in a larger puzzle.

well God love ya.............you must see me much higher on the ladder than I am........
.......that said......I don't think there's enough money for me to take that job! (there ARE huge sacrifices one makes in life......)
My perspective of Bob Lutz........they don't call him Maximum Bob for nothing.
I think men like him are very rare.
I respect him very much. (I'd say I agree with about 85% of what he does.....and says....)
I think -- in addition to his intellect -- he has the ability to say "hey-- this is what I think -- if you don't like it, tough.............."
When one gets to the point in life where they are relatively comfortable from a financial standpoint...and they realize that you don't need a gajillion dollars (like our 'friend' Kirk.........) ....you can truly make a difference. You take greater risks 'cause it really doesn't matter if they fire you...........and most likely, they aren't 'cause you know more than 'they' do.........
Those are some pretty large shoes to fill! (and it does worry me......)
Unlike our 'friend' B.M....I also think a lot of Rick Wagoner. The man has intelligence that I covet..........and moreover, definitely has compassion........which I think is lacking in the business world.......

I would just love to get into GM somewhere...ANYWHERE...
I gave Scott my resume back in 2003 when I was still in grad school, and he agreed to pass it along...I think we BOTH knew it wasn't going to go too far, especially then
But I'll always be grateful he humored the dreams of a then-23 year old.
I gave Jack Smith my resume shortly thereafter, when he came to give a speech to his and my alma mater (UMass Amherst)...at least when I went to the top, I got an email from the Director of Talent Acquisition, stating there was a hiring freeze. Again, I already knew that, but it was worth a shot, right??
I figured I could start asking at the top, and work my way down
I'd still love to work for GM someday (how could you EVER call a job at Milford, or the Auto Show circuit, anything less than a dream job??), but something tells me its probably not in the cards. I guess I just have to get back to selling them someday

A guy that tried to execute a war on the cheap, and instead we're saddled with a billion-dollar-per-week money pit and a war that's already taken longer than it took us to fight a massive 2 front war and own most of the Pacific as well as Europe??
The guy's reputation (before working for dad) is as a corperate cost slasher, not as a turn around whiz. And he's a good Secretary of Defence only when someone keeps him on a leash and remembers who works for who, like Bush Sr did.
Colin Powell seems to have his head on straight, and he's into cars (he used to restore Volvos as a hobby).
