What's going to happen after Lutz???!
What's going to happen after Lutz???!
There's been rumors of Lutz retiring circulating lately. Lutz himself has recently mused about retiring at 77 or 78 years old (about 2 to 3 years from now), right about the time the "new" GM's main core of vehicles comes on line.
I'm guessing we'll see Wagoner for a long time (he's not too old, and he's definately a career GM guy), but anyone want to speculat on a post-Lutz future.
For me, I'm going to miss the awesome one liners, having someone not afraid to take on the press, and of course, the leaks.

At age 74, Lutz concedes he is in the twilight of a storied career that began in 1963 at GM in Europe and then took him to BMW AG, Ford Motor Co., the former Chrysler Corp. and back to GM in 2001....
But Lutz hardly sees his final days at GM coming soon. "I'd like to be around for another two or three more years," said Lutz, who turns 75 in February. "That would take me to 77 or 78 (years old), and that would be about right."
...Lutz did say that he would consider leaving sooner if the GM board felt a need to identify his long-term successor.

Wolfgang Bernhard would be an excellent choice, especially if he gets tired of the politics at VW (of which there are constant rumours). Very bright guy, lots of experience, and plenty of years left to make a long term commitment. He's a lot like a younger Lutz, and would be a great person to continue to innovate and fight against GM's bureaucracy.
If Scott doesn't want it, what about me? I know this, it better be someone with atleast as much passion for GM, or we're all screwed! No numbers guys, and god forbid no friggin' contact lens people. Nothing less than someone, who knows the biz, with a passion for GM! I hope Lutz stays on for a while longer.
