2. 3.0L Yamaha (Ford taurus Sho)
3. 2.2L Tubro-charged boxer Subaru
4. 4.3L Turbo-charged Vortec (syclone motor)
5. 2.0L Vtec in the S2000
I didnt put much thought into my list.... im bored so i decided to make a poll.

Weren't the V8s in the SHOs known for breaking cam sprockets which caused them to eat themselves? That doesn't sound like a great motor to me.
I have to admit the turbo Supra motors are quite impressive with the amount of boost they can run. The LS1/6 should be on there as well.

LT5
LS6
LS1
LT4
LT1
Hmmm... very similar to some others
But I'll give the LT5 the nod over the others because it is rather exotic, and it made big horsepower 11 years before the LS6 (albiet at a much higher cost)!

If GM does one thing right, its their engine department. That's why four out of five are GM powertrains.
1. LS1/LS6 (great power and a leap for the future of pushrods)
2. 3800 V6 (you won't find a more reliable, fuel efficient powertrain that's this smooth with power)
3. Quad 4 (sound funky, but really was a good motor and the forerunner to the Northstar's technology)
4. V16 Caddy Concept (Hey, 1000hp, DOD, 20mpg, I just wish they'd make the thing)
5. 3.6 V8 from 360 Modena Ferrari (No blowers, no turbos, just 400hp N/A the way God intended)

1. GM's GenIII V8. Anyone who questions the use of pushrods in this engine deserves to get one stuck in their eye
I kinda include the LT4 in here, too, because it does represent a nice transition from the GenI/II engines.
2. BMW inline-6. Now available with up to 350 HP (in Europe), it's strong, smooth, and powerful.
3. Honda B16/18. Introduced in 1988 with 160 HP, and it's still a world-class engine that most other OEMs would kill to have in their line-up. Compare this to the history of the Quad 4
4. Toyota 2JZ-GTE.
5. VW/Audi 1.8 L turbodiesel. These things are amazing. I've also heard that the BMW V8 turbodiesel is wonderful, but I haven't yet had the chance to sample one. If I were in a totally different mindset today, I'd put the Cummins B-series diesel in here instead.
If exotics counted, then the Ferrari F40 engine must be considered. 450 HP out of a 2.9 L engine is amazing enough, but consider that this thing was doing it 15 years ago.
Honorable mention goes to many motorcycle engines (hey, you didn't exclude them from your poll) - the Honda 600 cc inline-four and 750cc V4; the old aircooled Suzuki 1100 cc inline-four; the Ducati water-cooled V-twin; the Yamaha 1200 cc V4 in its Vmax form, and the Kawasaki 900 cc inline-four. While there's many others that could be listed, each of these motors has proven itself over the last 10-15 years. Gotta mention the Bimota Vdue engine, too, for its attempt at becoming the first emissions-legal two-stroke.

1. GM LS6/LS1
2. Cadillac V16 (would make #1 if actually produced)
3. GM LT4
4. GM LT1
5. GM ZZ502 Ram Jet (yeah its a crate motor... so what?)
The Buick 3800 V6 Turbo would have made the list, however it was available in the mid 80's so its slightly older than the last 15 years.

Hmmm
1. LS1/LS6 (Basically the same thing) - Great motors, good economy and good power. Also light weight.
2. Honda B16/B18 - Great motors making great power for their size. Very reliable, great milage and extremely easy to work on. Possibly one of the best 4 cylinders ever.
3. Toyota Supra Turbo I6 - Stout motor. Can make insane power on stock bottom end no problem.
4. GM 3800 - Works for so many applications and is reliable. Its definately a proven motor. I do think though its gettin a bit outdated and its about time for GM to come out iwth something new. Companies like Honda are offering newer, more powerful, more fuel efficient motors.
5 Hmm... I have to think about it and get baack to teh thread.

i'm with Eric Bryant on this one... everyone else here doesn't seem to realize that GM isn't the only engine manufacturer in the world... honestly people, 4.3 cyclone as one of the best motors in the past 15 years? you have got to be kidding... here is my list
1 - 2JZGTE.... not alot of torue, but can support tremendous HP on stock internals AND still remain reliable
2 - northstart 4.6... these are NOT given enough credit because they are difficult to tune, but these motors are fantastic
3 - LS1/LS6... the performance bargain of the centry... fantastic motors! honourable mention to the LT5 which was great, but very expensive
4 - VQ35DE... the smallblock chevy for the 21st century
5 - honda's B-series... like them or not, they are pretty strong motors and nowadays as cheap and easy to build up as any american motor
other motors that are pretty good:
renesis rotary from the RX8... i'm not a big fan of wankels, but it's a step forward for that technology
SR20DET... great motor, boost friendly
RB26... another boost friendly motor, but the 2JZ is probably better
3800 series II... reliable family hauler
ford's 4.6 DOHC... great motor... affordable source for a big DOHC motor, but too detuned in factory trim, even in the cobra r
