What are Ford's plans for Taurus?
With Intrepid going RWD, and Impala/Monte Carlo potentially going RWD, what do you think Ford's plans are for the next Taurus?
I have been hearing that they may drop the nameplate all together becuase they just arent selling like the used too back in the early 90's and mid-to-late 80's...
There has been speculation tht the Forty-Nine concept might take it's place...
Is every car in the Ford division going to be a retro-mobile?
Will a retro Windstar be next?!?!

The Mazda 6 will be the basis of the next Taurus.
Ford pretty much did to Taurus what GM did to Camaro, with a twist. The FWD Taurus was ignored because it was to be replaced with a RWD Fairmont within the next year or 2, but that plan was suddenly dropped as part of Ford's restructuring. After a year in limbo, Ford decided to base the next one on the paid-for chassis from Mazda.
As a side note, the upcomming, larger-than-Taurus Ford 500 is based on a Volvo chassis & components. The Fairmont has been moved back, and if & when it ever comes out, it'll most likely take the Crown Vic's place, which as of this past fall Ford was still deciding what to do with it.

Actually, I stand corrected after reading your post... It was the Ford 500 that I heard was a potential replacement for Taurus, not the Forty-Nine like I said in my original post...
