How many people are looking for a "pony car" compared to those looking for a cool looking coupe? The majority of buyers out there base most things on looks.

When my mom was shopping for a car pretty much any nice looking car with a manual, in the mid $20k range was a candidate. She ended up in an Accord coupe V6 M6 because it looks cool. She doesn't even care about the V6 - she drives like a grandma. She liked the exterior styling better compared to the 4cyl. Where its built, the size of the engine, the drive wheels - non of that mattered. I can guarantee you the great majority of buyers out there have a similar mentality.

I would agree with what you are saying about buying on looks. But I think that most Camaro buyers and Mustang buyers are the go to have it types when it comes to those cars. Some aren't, but I just don't see an Accord coupe being cross shopped with a Camaro either. Sure it happens, it also happens that people will cross shop completely different segments. I looked at a G8, Enclave, Acadia, Malibu, Impala, and Cobalt SS before getting the Enclave.

So, when your mom looked at coupes, how many did she look and what were they?

At least Motorweek thinks the Genesis coupe and Camaro V6 will be cross-shopped:

She wasn't looking at coupes at all. Originally she was looking at 4cyl sedans. Then I don't know if it was the mid-life crisis thing or what, but she ended up in the Accord coupe. It has comfortable seating for 3 in the back so it was still ok. She has said she likes how the G6 coupe looks, but its a 2+2 and no manual. She didn't like the Altima. She loves the Camaro though (her first car was a 2nd gen) and has also considered the Mustang.

There was a comparison with the v6 Camaro... I think it beat the Camaro buy a 1/10th was close to the same on a road course and the Camaro outbreaked it. and cost less...

this was a V6 vs a track edition v6 genesis coupe.

Its to bad Hyundai didn't have the stones to put a V8 in the coupe, it would have been a very interesting car. I see red one floating around my AO and in the flesh its not a bad looking car.

I have seen 1 Genesis coupe on the road here in Houston. As a comparison, I routinely saw 4 Camaro's in the parking garage near St Luke's the end of last month.

Ok it might...I doubt alot. Mustang has tons of brand loyalty.
