I don't think anybody's trying shout you down PX. Even if I don't agree with everything you say....I still value your opinion and your technical knowledge...and I think in the real world you're probably a pretty good guy. But you've got a short wick, man.

And that's ok too....maybe I have one too.

Just some advice...

Drink more Sleepy Time Tea and less Red Bull.

[looks for flying poop]With the SS models coming out of Chevy they might not be considered SVT/PVO competition. But at the same time they ARE.When ever you hear SS you think all out performance (This coming from a Ford guy) and the latest offerings are being chewed up by the mags that once "loved" to do a write up on a SS vehicle. Not saying they dont "love" to still do it Im certain they do.Chevy doesnt have a choice wether or not the SS line will be comapred to SVT and the like simply because they are performance models.
Here is how I see it.You Chevy guys always (media too) compared the Z/28 to the GT (jesus Im going to get raped for making this comparison) and the SS to the Cobra. Now if that doesnt point out that SS IS competeing with SVT/PVO I dont know what it does................

I like to point one more thing out.I simply love M/T for not putting the SS up against the L.Which it clearly shouldnt of been.

I also think that SS is competing with SVT/PVO. Chevrolet wants us to think that too. (Thats confirmed) Are they doing a good job?
No. Does the average customer believe they are getting the best performance when they buy SS? Yes. Are they getting the best? No. Can it be better? Yes. Why isn't the customer getting what they think there getting? It's not more expensive (Impala SS and GP comp G). I think its a way to charge an extra $3-4000 for a car.
Am I just stating my opinion? No. Other people here seem to agree with me.

Ladies and Gentlemen.

OK....got to page three.

Do you really expect anyone.....from any manufacturer.....to read all of this?

I gotta tell you, the only thing I've read lately that really told me anything is the "what's wrong" "what's right" threads.

Every other thread seems to degenerate into name calling or 'that same old debate' Moreover, claims are made that cannot be substantiated.

I monitor about 10 sites in all........and this site has gotten to the point that I'd hate to send anyone over here ..... because of the foolishness that makes intelligent people look like a bunch of 10 year olds. I can't say that about the other sites.

Am I going to continue to talk with my fellow enthusiasts and the enthusiasts from Brand X, Y and Z?

Yup...... you betcha.........

But I don't see the worth in reading the same thing over and over and over and over and over again.

someone email me when something new comes up.

Red, this post was about the meaning of SS. I posted some facts and opinions and your guy's didn't like what they read. I used the Camaro SS and Z28 as an example because those are true performance vehicles as opposed to the rest of the current "SS" line up. And it went from there.

Red, what does SS mean to you?

Gee. 6 hours since my last post, and this thread turned into 3 pages of the SS vs Z28 debate again.

Who would have guessed?

Wonderful way to drive away the GM guy that has our ears for constructive thoughts and yes, criticism.

C'mon guys, Red knows all about this debate, and if you read in another thread a quote from him: No decision has been made as far as trim levels go on the next car.

You have all made your point. Let sleeping dogs lie for gosh sakes!

Now, someone come up with a constructive, useful topic on the next Camaro.

I just want to make one thing clear this thread in no way was meant to drive anyone away. This was a serious question and I stated a few facts and my own opinions and some people got upset because they didn't agree with what I said. Z284ever asked them not to post if they didn't have anything to say about the subject. They took my comments the wrong way. I had to defend my comments and beliefs. Didn't sound like they were standing on solid ground and proceeded to insult me. It's pretty easy to jump into that debate because everyone has strong feelings about it.

I still stand by my comment SS=some show and no go is big dollars for Chevrolet.

They did a bad job trying to change my mind.

So to bring this thread full-circle and back on topic (and to salvage something out of this mess)....

I disagree with your opinion somewhat. With today's SS lineup, Chevy is indeed positioning the badge as the top-powered model in each line. The new W-body SS's, while not world-beating performers by today's standards, do offer the supercharger. The Silverado SS is the most powerful and sporty-appearing truck in the line. I'm not a fan of that truck to say the least, but I've come to the realization that it does make sense to put an SS badge on it considering how Chevy is marketing "SS".

I guess the point is that today's SS doesn't offer eye-popping power upgrades...but there's no doubt they do offer an upgrade.

That is exactly what SS is supposed to mean. The top power in that particular car line!!

But the trouble here is 2 fold.
1. Compare the price & performance to another competitor, and SS just doesn't hold up.
2. Top power in a car line here (re: Camaro and Silverado) is way too small for the cover charge.

The Impala & Monte Carlo SS may change that, and the Colbalt SS seems to certainly be on track to do that. It's just that those Camaro SSs were pretty expensive for what you got, and the Silverado SS is just plain $$$$$ !

Why does the GP have more power, hud, tap shift, Light weight wheels and a better suspension and cost less?
