Any plans on them changing the Type-R Warrior Wing and JDM Skyline styled rear lights?

And what did they use to get that ecotec to get it to 1000hp? Turbos not asupercharger. It also blew up.

6.7 - 7 seconds to 60 does not make excitement. The ss would destroy a 95 maxima in the twisties and the straights.

Are you trying to say that an old stock maxima was as fast as a Cobalt SS? It is not even close. The Maxima is not going to trap 100 in the quarter so Chevy emblem or not, the Maxima is not as cool and definatly not as fast.

Yeah, I'll go right out and get that Maxima................

Re: What do Cobalt SS owners have to say?

Threxx,

Your Maxima only weighed 2,900 lbs? Really? Since when? I mean, that car sure is bigger than my '95 Grand Am was, and that car weighed 2,850 according to the brochure sitting right next to me. And that 190hp V6 the Maxima had...it put down over 200 at the wheels? Wow...you and that car are really, really cool...

Or, that Japanese bias you claim you don't have is rearing its ugly head again. I have news for you...a '95 Maxima was at best a 6.8-7.0 second 0-60 car, did not do 69 MPH through the slalom like a Cobalt SS, did not pull .9g on a skidpad, wasn't nearly as tunable etc. etc.

I have news for you...that car still isn't cool. But thanks for letting me know I can get one for 5-6k Because, you know, that's all its really worth...

Ehh....a 95 four door family sedan Maxima and an 05 Cobalt SS coupe are just slightly different vehicles IMO

Re: What do Cobalt SS owners have to say?

The Maxima SE 5-speed was 2950 pounds... ~1.7% heavier than the Cobalt SS
It made 190 horsepower... ~7.9% less (as far as ratings go anyhow... if it makes more than so be it but it's not rated any more)
It made 205 lb-ft of torque... ~ 2.5% more than the cobalt
It did 0-60 in ~ 6.5 seconds... .4 seconds slower than the Cobalt
And it would run the 1/4-mile typically around 15.1... .4 seconds slower then the Cobalt

So no, it wasn't faster, but it was damn close per the specs I looked up.

I know they're two completely different cars. I didn't really have a point other than it annoyed me back when people acted like a 10 year old 4-door that could be bought fo 5-6k, be a comfortable and well-featured practical ride and run those kinda numbers was dumb. But here comes a 10 year newer 22k dollar 2-door car with less comfort and less practicality, but oh boy, it runs almost half a second quicker in the 1/4-mile... let's all bow down to it!!

And you are right, while the Maxima handled really damn well for a 4-door... I'm sure it wouldn't touch the Cobalt, either. I guess that's the tradeoff for comfort vs handling and 10 years of newer technology.

Uh oh, this looks like a case of "I found the best times for mine, and the worst for yours"

I will have to search my archives of auto mags to find a range of numbers.

I do recall the Maxima being pretty light but I don't remember it comming in at under 3000 pounds.

Yeah, I'll second that. I wish my MT and C&D back issues were here with me and not at my parents house. I'm going to look up the weight of a '95 Maxima real soon...I am EXTREMELY skeptical those things weighed under 3,000 lbs...I don't buy it.

And maybe one came in at 6.4, but I never saw one. Those were high 6 to low 7 second 0-60 cars all day long. My friend owned one, so I know more about them than I'd care to. I also like the fact Threxx that you backed off from mentioning any specs on handling, as I think its safe to say no Maxima pulled .9g on a skidpad and 69 MPH through a slalom. You also ignore that while the RATED horsepower is similar, the WHEEL HP is likely vastly different. I'd say you're taking arguing lessons from redzed, but that would be just cruel. But with statements like the ones you are making about a 10 year old Maxima, do you really wonder why a lot of people get annoyed with your Japanese car praising?

Was it a nice car for 1995? Sure. So is a Cobalt SS for 2006. So exactly, what the hell IS your point? Maximas were quick...BFD. The new one is barely any quicker, so using your logic the new Maxima is underwhelming as well.

So what?

Next he's going to tell us that the modern V6 eclipses are cool too because they have so much more stock power than the DSM cars. Nevermind the modability factor of a forced induction car. 300hp cars that run 14s are cooler.

Re: What do Cobalt SS owners have to say?

cobalts and redlines dont make 205hp and 200tq, my 100% stock redline made 211 at the wheels and 187 tq. thats 250hp and 225tq at the crank. highest number from a stock cobalt ss was 221hp and 193tq i think it was. and this is with the car crashing into the rev limiter while is still making power.

Re: What do Cobalt SS owners have to say?

The 95 Maxima SE 5-speed was the lightest Maxima ever produced from 95 onward to this day. It was the only one that barely squeeked under 3000 pounds, although some sources have it quoted at 3010.. so I dunno what to believe.

And FWIW if you're remembering 0-60 anywhere in the 7 second range you are without a doubt recalling times from an automatic Maxima between 95 and 99. Those were the transmissions performance guys loved to hate... they called them "automagics" becauase they 'magically' sapped easily a full second in 1/4-mile times and nearly a full second 0-60 as well.

Wasnt this thread about a Cobalt SS , and not a 10 year old Maxima . I cannot find one reason to compare the 2 .
