I got the idea from a cheers&gears thread.

My votes:

*The C5 Corvette. The new C6 looks good, but I think the curves & design of the C5 is going to be timeless.

*The Pontiac Solstice. Another beautifully styled car. Simple, smooth, a great looking sports car.

*The Chrysler 300. The car's design seems to lead to instant domination whatever you park it next to. Even it's wheels ssem oversized (thanks to the wheel openings). It's not really pretty, but it's elegent in a Rolls Royce sort of way.

Though I plan to buy either a GTO or a Mustang GT next year, I don't consider them classics for 2 very different reasons. Both are great looking cars, the GTO in it's stealth & Mustang in artfully bringing it's historic design cues back into one car.

Doesn't mean they wont be classics. In the 1970s, designs of 60s era Mustangs were considered over styled & 60s Camaros were considered dull, yet both are classics today. GTOs from the 60s looked just like any other Pontiac. So I know it's possible the new Mustang & GTO might still end up classics (GTO's relative low production is likely to make it even more valuable in the future).

I think the styling of tese will hold up better over time than the more polarizing 300C's

 

I'll second all of the above (smart people on this board), and add in the Nissan 350z, the Mazda RX-8, and, especially, the Cadillac XLR. In fact, Cadillac seems to have it in gear better than many of the competing designers. Between the XLR and the concepts, most notably the Cien (I love that design), it's unbelievable. Good to see GM designing, at least in one arm.

 

Like it or not I'd say the SSR will qualify. I would also expect all Firehawks to be considered classic(ok ,I'm biased) along with the GMMG Camaros and Blackbirds.

 

You're right, I, too, think the SSR will get a cult following, much like the El Caminos. There's very little like it.

And, hopefully, my Camaro.

 

In general, it's tuff to say. They crank out most models by the thousands these days. "Rare" in the 1960's could be one of 10 or 20. "Rare" in the 2000's seems to be one of 7,000+

I'll cast my vote (and cross my fingers) for Bullitt Mustangs. Only one year, 5582 cars. If it had the 32V engine, it would be a shoe in, but I think there's a pretty good chance that if it doesn't become 'collectible' it will continue to be pretty cool anyways. I got two thumbs up today - how often does that happen with a three year old nearly stock appearing car?

I also think that the Supercharged Cobras (only a few years of production) are potentially collectible. C5s will probably hold their value well.

 

I agree about the Bullit. The SSR will have higher production than that ,but is too unusual not to become classic. The highest production year for Firehawk was 2002 when about 1500 were built. Most years were half of that or less with the '91/'92 run totaling only 26 cars. The GMMG cars are also hyper-rare.

Others that come to mind would be GN/GNX/T-type,Scyclone/Typhoon,'89Turbo T/A , ZR1,LT4 Camaro SS/Firehawk,1LE cars,and even 94-96 Impala SS.

2. E46M3: very nice car with the M fanatics behind it
3. C5: agree with above comments plus the Z06 has taken the Corvette legend to the next level...
4. GTO: its gonna be real popular with the show car crowd and latter with collectors

Future cars: I really cant say much other than the Ford GT, to many what ifs....

Recent cars:
1. Mustangs: the recent special edition stuff...bullet/mach 1 will remain popular with the show car folks.
2. Mustang Cobras: 03/04 plus the 00R. nice powerfull cars
3. The GMMG F-body cars...not quite as valuable as the old ones but still special.

Finally, I see the LS1 f-bodies falling into that 55-57 chevy, Nova, LX5.0 catagory as a great hot rodding type platform...not rare but a popular "canvas".

 

Mystichrome 2004 Cobra

Rarity, flashy/good looks, speed, and potential=making of an instant classic.

Of course, the regular 2003 and 2004 Cobra's as well.
